bluebetty (93), Australia Oct 6, 2009 Bottle. Lovely reddish brown with a creamy head. Head disappeared to leave wonderful lacing. Aromas are very much sweet and sour. Obviously quite complex. Plenty of vingary sourness here. Flavours are wonderful. Grapy, some malt sweetness and plenty of sour cherries. Yep certainly very complex. Mouthfeel is spot on. Great beer. TxCicerone (1), Texas, USA does not count Oct 1, 2009 33 cl bottle. Reddish brown with off-white head. Small tight dense bubbles. Aroma is full of balsamic vinegar, cherries and brown sugar. Lovely balance between sweetness and puckery sourness. Flavor continues with cherry & balsamic theme. Simultaneously refreshing and filling. TCR = 3.5 JackfromJax (17), Florida, USA Sep 28, 2009 750ml bottle. Pours dark redish brown with a quickly discipating creamy white head. Initial aroma is sweet fruit with slight vinous and/or acetic elements. Body is medium full mainly from the younger of the blend. Depending on the age of the blend the sourness will vary. This sample was much more sour than others that I have had that have been almost cloyingly sweet. This beer is outstanding. A good balance between the younger more sweet beer in the blend and the assertively sour older beer. I recommend letting the beer age more so that the balance is there, as well as the complexity. A great beer to end the night of tasting on. thirdeye11 (416), Texas, USA Sep 26, 2009 ( 750ml bottle exp 12/09) pours murky brownish red with nice fluffy white head and excellent lacing. Nose is vinous, fruity, and wood. Taste is lightly sour, some molasses, creamy, dried fruits, tons of wood and absolutely delicious. This has aged exceptionally and the creamy carbonation has benefitted as a result. Age one if you can! douglas88 (1559), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Sep 20, 2009 11.2 ounce bottle from Tres Bon Cuisine. Pours a ruddy brown color with a medium white head. The aroma is very vinous; sweet sugary grapes. The flavor is nice; a rich mix of grapes, fruity flavors, yeast and some wood. Slightly sour. Pretty nice. yemenmocha (344), Glendale, Arizona, USA Sep 18, 2009 Pours a coca-cola brown with thin tan head.
Nose is a little cola like as well, but together with sour passion fruits. Very complex, like that miscellanious "passion fruits" flavor in many products/fragrances. Cherry is one that might stick out, but very complex on the whole. Slight hint of pipe tobacco.
On the palate is a delightful explosion of vinegary sourness together with burnt sugar sweetnes mingled with passion fruit. A darker, molasses to toffee cake sweetness is found at the back of the palate and into the finish.
Finish is very cola-syrup extract like in sweetness. Nice and appetizing for the next sip. Reminds me of those coca-cola ink pens from childhood, the ones with the fragrance in the ink.
Scouser (39), Pennsylvania, USA Sep 12, 2009 Strong vinegar aroma. Nice dark amber colour, no lacing. Strong balsamic vinegar taste. Overall not bad ,not good. brewski519 (395), Morrisville, North Carolina, USA Sep 12, 2009 From the bottle this gem poured an dark amber color with a foamy tan head. Aroma of raisin, cherry, vinegar and sugar. Taste was a very sweet, tart raisin, wine and vinegar - very enjoyeable. This is a brew I would buy to keep on hand to share with friends .
