Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA May 25, 2008 Bottle, from Noel Cuveliers, Abele. Warm red-copper, off-white cap of fine head. The earthy, noble-rot smell of a very well-aged Christmas pudding. The flavor seems at first to be rather at odds with the gravitas of the aroma. Very delicate, very light. Plum and cherry pit tartness, softly sweet leafy malt, very light body. The contrast between nose and mouth persists, but they seem to come to some kind of understanding anyway. Lingering cherry perserves. I think the subtlies of this beer would shine with a touch less sweetness, but a flavorfull, interesting beer as is. TheShat (131), Lakewood, Ohio, USA May 24, 2008 I had this on draft. A fantastic yeast/ sour aroma with a hint of fruit. A refreshing sour flavor mixed in with plum and finishing with raison. Tasted almost like wine. Great! buzzoven (333), Japan May 23, 2008 This beer absolutely floored me the first time I had it and it was complex enough to keep me buying it again and again. Super apple smell fills the air once poured, Colour is beautiful amber with some golden shades. Taste is apple peel, fire raisins, pear, peach, vinegar, lots of interesting and unusual wine notes. Slightly bitter finish. Wow. The thing that made such an impression on me were the wine characteristics of this beer. Took me by surprise that I enjoyed this one so much since I am not a fan of fruity beers, overall. Excellent stuff. Todeon (314), Sweden May 22, 2008 Red appearance with a minimumsized head. Aroma is really woody and oaky with lots of sweentess. Flavor is complex with a nice sweetsour taste to it and lots of acidity. Scauca (408), Lovere, Italy May 22, 2008 Updated: Apr 20, 2009Red brown appearance. Barely no head. Aroma is balsamic vinegar, woody, red fruits, some sweetness if sweetness is perceivable with nose. Complex but way too sweet, with some sourness. (3.8)
Drank a couple of bottles, I’ve found it less sweet, with a superb sourness, mingling with a subtle vanilla woodiness and a mature red fruits note. couchand (182), Iowa City, Iowa, USA May 22, 2008 Strong acetic aroma, some oakiness.
Dark caramel, small creamy head.
Sweet, overbalancing the tart. Acidic on the tounge.
Great! WesKBob (317), Bethany, Oklahoma, USA May 18, 2008 If nothing else, this is a beautiful-looking beer with a dark reddish brown, a thick creamy head and lots of lacing. Aroma is a nice balance of cherries and cider vinegar. Flavor is similar with a mix of sweet and tart. Cherry flavor still present, with the addition of some tart granny smith apples. Medium body and a smooth finish. I’m not a huge fan of the Flemish sour style, but this is a good, surprisingly drinkable beer. weeAnaP (1), USA does not count May 17, 2008 Very unusual beer for me... very surprised with the striking after taste! Beautiful color and aroma... very addicting!
