faroeviking (6024), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands Nov 8, 2007 Bottle. Pours a clear dark red-brown colour. No head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, some sourness and dark fruits. Good mouthfeel. The flavour is sour, roasty and sweet with well ripe fruits, spices, wood (oak), red berries and some yeast. Sour bit dry finish. Nice one this Duchesse. andyhite (290), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA Nov 4, 2007 750 ml. thanks semich. pours intense, dark brown, but with a ruby-garnet glimmer. adequate lacing. typical sour ale nose. tart fruit, smooth yet silky. a bit of underlying raspberry fruit and currants on the tail end. taste? fruit follows onto the flavor and into the finish to coat the palate, both on the sides and the front end. sweet, ripe fruits, a healthy dose of carbonation (reminiscent of champagne), and a lighter dose of yeast. on the palate, it’s velvety, yet extremely smooth. excellent for the style. it’s one to savor. Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA Nov 2, 2007 Pours a copper color with a light tan head. Aroma is of oak, cherry, candied sugar, and some dark fruit. Flavor was a little lighter then I was expecting from the aroma but it’s still a strong flavor. Starts off with a little tartness from the cherry. Dark fruit and oak dominate the middle flavor and it finishes sweet with sugar. Complex and delicious. beerbrat99 (119), Portland, Oregon, USA Nov 2, 2007 Draft. Green Dragon. A wonderful belgian ale. Poured in appropiate brewery glass. Notes of tartness but finishes with slight sweetness. WOW! beachbum25 (778), Powellville, Maryland, USA Nov 2, 2007 11.2 oz bottle-Poured a mohogany red color w/a minimal head but great lacing which lasted thru the brew. Sweet Belgian aroma. Has a nice sour, tart flavor to it, traces of cane sugar, apples, cherries. & plums. Dark fruit presence which is a nice change of pace. Long, sour, tart finish. This was quite good; my first Sour Ale; thought it was just a standard Belgian when I bought it so it was a plesent surprise. harmfuldrunk (288), New Jersey, USA Nov 2, 2007 dark blood red nice creamy head taste is really great very little vinegar, sweet taste I would drink again xmarcnolanx (789), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA Oct 31, 2007 Updated: Nov 5, 2007Rich vinegary, fruity aroma. A lot of bright fruit esters with a hint of musky malt vinegar. The pour is a dull ruby, nearly opaque, with wisps of an egg shell head.
Taste is slightly fizzy on the front of the tongue with a mid-palate of vinegar, sweet red sugary fruit, and a smooth, quenching finish that is slightly sour and acidic.
Decent. hiddenvariable (194), pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 30, 2007 bottle. pours a dark crimson with a decent cream head that thins out but sticks around and laces nicesly. before i finished pouring (at nearly arm’s length), i could already smell the tart cherries. a sniff gives more of those delicious sour black cherries, with grape and raisin and oak and grapefruit. the smell is nearly knocking me out of my chair. the taste is something new entirely. the first note is a pretty strong candy malt, with tart red cherries coming in right behind, but that soon changes to a bit of apple and pear, and maybe even a slight grapey note. both the taste and smell are amazingly complex. finishes lightly sweet and quite tart. good creamy carbonation and a tight astringent mouthfeel. delicious!
