deep amber with ruby edges capped by an ample off white head with great retention. Nose is tart and has a essense of horsehair. Taste begins with vinegar, burnt sugar, lemon, and brett. light body, but not watery. Aight.

Pours a deep ruby-brown. Minimal head and lacing. Nose is red wine vinegar, oak, tart cherry, raspberry. Taste is cherry balsamic, wood, bit of cranberry. Hint of caramel. Medium body and fairly sweet. Finishes tart with a faint lingering sweetness. Really good.

Red brown color, nice tan head. Cheries, apple and balsamico vinegar in armoma. Tastes sweet and fruity, with acidic finish. No signs of bitterness. Medium body, very light carbonation. Very tasty beer.

Deep brown-red in colour with a fine fading dark white head. Aromas of quality balsamico vinegar, dark cherry and wood develop with notes of earthyness and dark olives. Rather complex! Some fruity-wood sweetness hits your palate at first quickly changing into a pleasant vinegar sweet-bitter-acidity. Softly carbonated with a light slick texture developing a fruity-dry-tartness. Chewy well balanced yet complex lasting finish. Nice one!

Mein erstes saures Bier.

Verhaeghe’s most reputed beer, a classic in the ’oud bruin’ style, or more accurately ’Vlaams rood’. Deep mahogany colour under a creamy, pale beige head; very estery nose, passion fruit, cherry, pear, cider, red wine, sour cream; sweet onset (this is clearly sweetened with candi sugar), very fruity, vinous, with a tartness which dries a bit and increases towards the finish, caramelly malt base, vinous and somewhat woody, long sour-sweet finish. Nice, but an unsweetened version would prove more interesting. I’ll take Vichtenaar in the meantime.

750ml bottle at the Beerstore, Thessaloniki. Dark red color with small almost no head. Wineous, fruity aroma, malty too. Sweet and light sour taste. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.
