UPDATED: FEB 5, 2007 Bottle from Systembolaget. Never thought I’d say a beer that smells of hair spray would be worth drinking - but this beauty is. Amazing smells of oak, a bit of sour funk and cherry stones (and of course the hair spray). Very wine/sherry-like in flavour, with a very sweet fruit accent that plays off nicely against the mild sourness and minimal bitterness. One of those beers that just sticks out. Weird but worthy!

750 mL bottle. Pours an amazing ruby red with thin beige head. What a color! Granny smith apples in the nose. More lemony zest as it warms. The taste is a complex sweet/sour. Lemon and sour cherry balanced with sweet malt. Light mouthfeel and a sweeter finish. This is one acidic beer - it was making my fillings ache! Very well crafted.

On tap at Dilly Deli. My first foray into the world of Sour Ales. Deep ruby red color with a small white head. Aroma of sour fruit and yeast. Excellent complex, mildly sour and tart fruit flavor (cherries, raspberries, apples, apricots, plums, currants, etc.) with some oak and yeast in the background. It’s almost as if some beer was poured into a glass of wine. This would pair very well with many different foods. A wonderful and unique beer that everyone should try.

Red-brown beer with a tiny head. Aroma of caramel and oak. Tastes like Glühwein (or red wine). Very surprising and enjoyable!

Dark red color. Intense scent. Smell of wine. In mouth it is warm and wrapping, and sour notes prevail. Tasty but not entirely drinkable in quantity.

bottle. pours a dark crimson with a decent cream head that thins out but sticks around and laces nicesly. before i finished pouring (at nearly arm’s length), i could already smell the tart cherries. a sniff gives more of those delicious sour black cherries, with grape and raisin and oak and grapefruit. the smell is nearly knocking me out of my chair. the taste is something new entirely. the first note is a pretty strong candy malt, with tart red cherries coming in right behind, but that soon changes to a bit of apple and pear, and maybe even a slight grapey note. both the taste and smell are amazingly complex. finishes lightly sweet and quite tart. good creamy carbonation and a tight astringent mouthfeel. delicious!

Fantastic growing, now billowing flesh-colored head, ruby/amber body and effervescent carbonation. Definite tart cherry aroma, but accompanied by other dark fruit, light cocoa, and a waning acidity. Starts out nice and sharp, followed by a curious, steak flavor...not really bad, but unexpected. Cherries and berries abound. If was a bit more sour, and a little less acidic, it would be excellent.
