COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Duchesee de Bourgogne is the traditional top fermented reddish-brown ale from the West-Flanders region of Belgium. This refined ale also known as "The Burgundies of Belgium" is a blend of 8 and 18 months old ales following careful maturation in oak casks. 100% natural and unpasteurized.

Bottle, red coulor, truffel, sweet .. maybe too sweet, not a complex taste. But anyway a nice beer!

appearance is hands down 5 -- dark but wild artificial even chemical like dark red hue. aroma of sherry, cherries, and merlot grapes. flavor is foremost of strong wine like elements of pressed grapes and some booze. there is still a bit of a ? in the aroma, which i attribute to some yeast character i am not fammiliar with. i was hoping for stronger yeast character, this is quite subdued. a bit sweet and a bit tart, cherries are always creeping up in the background and sometimes more.

Straight from the bottle enjoyed on a summit over Lago Lugano, Switzerland. This was recommended to me by the wife/owner of A Tutta Birra in Milano as her favorite. Most interesting beer I’ve had so far in Italy. The aroma reminded me of rotting trash and at first sip so did the flavor. Further sips revealed sour cherries, dark fruits, apricot and vanilla. Incredibly smooth on the palate, absolutely no kick at the end. Much too sweet for me, almost could be considered a dessert beer in the same vein as dessert wines.

330 ml bottle from a trade with hobbersr. best before 27-02-10. slow gusher. pours clear reddish brown with a lingering tan head. aromas of sour dark fruits, wood, vinegar. the flavour starts with sour fruits which leads to some woody funk. there is some dryness mid palate with a touch of sweetness near the end. not very sour and not huge in flavour. a beginner sour ale IMO. thx for the bottle hobbersr.

11.2oz bottle into chalice. pours a deep red copper color with very little to no white head. Smells of funk, vinegar and hints of fruity esters. Mouth feel is thin with little carbonation. Taste is very sweet and vinegary, almost like a cider, not sour at all, quite disappointing

Bottle. Copper coloured pour with a healthy head. Aroma of vinegar, sour. Tastes sour, vinegar, fruity, little sweetness but generally sour. Not my kind of beer but I’ve had it many times.

250 ml bottle. Brown body. Bad aroma of vegetables, sour and alcohol. Anyhow palate is quite nice and flavour is balanced sweetness and sourness. Some chocolate too.

Been waiting for some time now to rate this beer - with its impressive title, reeking of old nobility and renaissance art. Striking in every way. Pours a deep cherry red body with a medium creamy head, disappearing relatively quickly. Smell is vinegar, egg and hints of basement aromas. Taste is rich and sweet, with strong balsamic notes gently rolled into hints of oak, cherry and molasses. A bit too sweet-sour for my taste; I think a sour ale benefits best from a slightly drier and more purely sour profile. Anyway, the Duchesse is a smooth and fairly complex beer. Still don’t think sours are my style, though.

25cl bottle from Bierkompass.de. Poured cola color with a bubbly white head. Aroma is vinegar mostly, so sour I couldn´t detect much more. Flavor is vinegar, but not as strong as aroma, with some sweet cherry notes. Quite complex. Must be the most soury sour ale I have tried so far. Interesting, although the aroma was a bit too much for me.

250 ml bottle @ Haket on January 19. Pours dark copper brown with a creamy off-white head that leaves lots of trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is full-bodied, malty and acidic with caramel, burnt sugar, cherries and lemon. Taste is very sweet, slightly sour and metallic with burnt sugar, some strange artificial cherry flavour, prunes and raisins. Finish is sweet and slightly acidic with burnt sugar. Way too sweet and sadly a bit of a disappointment.
