COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Duchesee de Bourgogne is the traditional top fermented reddish-brown ale from the West-Flanders region of Belgium. This refined ale also known as "The Burgundies of Belgium" is a blend of 8 and 18 months old ales following careful maturation in oak casks. 100% natural and unpasteurized.

Clear red brown body with white foamy head that quickly dissipates. Smell is of oak, sour cherry, and a sweetness like grape soda. Taste is moderately sour to start, but sweet on the finish. Medium bodied, with large bubbles.

Apparence : Brune, cuivrée, reflets rouges-orange, faible col sans rétention, légère dentelle, carbonatation semble moyenne et moyennement rapide. Nez : Vinaigre balsamique, touche sucrée, boisé, alcool, tannins de raisins. Goût : Équilibre entre le sucre et l’acidité, vinaigre balsamique à la framboise, boisé en mi-bouche. Sensation : Effervescence faible à moyenne, finale mi-acide mi-sucrée qui traîne plus sur le sucre, moyennement longue, astringence du bois. Corps moyen, mais tout de même huileux. Bref : Bel équilibre entre l’acidité et le sucre résiduel, surtout pour une bière sûre. L’acidité n’est d’ailleurs jamais agressante. La framboise apporte définitivement une touche intéressante.

A pleasant surprise. A lovely dark sour ale which was full of flavor and body. It could have benefited from an extra 1% or 2% to make it suitable for sipping like a wine. Only the aroma was a bit weak.

A really pleasant surprise. Great dark color, balanced sour flavor and a variety of sensations on the palate. Could have used an extra 1% or 2% alcohol.

UPDATED: JUL 24, 2016 Aus der Flasche getrunken (von einem holländischen Händler bezogen). Dunkelstes Rotbraun mit stabiler heller Schaumkrone im Glas. Fruchtige Säure in der Nase. Im Antrunk herbe Fruchtsäure von Beerenfrüchten. Bleibt aber auch im Nachtrunk sauer. Erfrischend.

25 cl bottle at home. Appearance: red brown with medium off-white head. Aroma: red wine, old hops, grapes, fruity esters, butterscotch and ethyl acetate. Taste: high sweetness with low bitterness. Sourness that slowly degrades toward the finish. Notes of sour cherries, grapes and brown sugar. Palate: medium bodied, slick texture and lively carbonation.

A very dark, crimson color with a small, off-white head - looks very much like red wine. Aroma of wine without fermentation scents - if it makes any sense - as well as juice and caramel - not acidic in the way wines can be. A sweet taste of grapes; it is juicy, a tad sour, definitely not dry. A medium body, a slick texture, and a soft carbonation. Finish is long and good, introduces some herbal elements. Overall the beer is good and definitely deserves a recommendation.

Výčap Beergeek bar. Tmavo hnedá farba, biela pena. Vôňa ovocná, jemne octová, pikantná. Chuť sladová, sladká, prezreté exotické ovocie, pozadie kyselkavé. Stredné telo, stredná nasýtenosť, veľmi dobre piteľné. Výborné!

Si presenta scura con riflessi rosso brillanti ed esigui ma adeguatamente persistente cappellino di schiuma fine color panna; aroma vinoso complesso che si mantiene anche al palato dove permangono sentori di chiodi di garofano dopo il sorso.

75cl bottle, pours a clear mahogany color with a thin white head. Aroma of apple cider vinegar, grapes/cherries, woody, very strong. Taste is tart, vinegar, somewhat cidery, and finishes sweet. Fruit taste is strongly apparent. Light body and medium carbonation.

Pours a dark red color, with a beige, fluffy head. Smells of acetic, fermented grapes, glue and old mushrooms. Dried plums and rock sugar get easily balanced by the sharpness of the acetic sourness. Brings a pleasant fruitiness to the nose, which adds a fantastic complexity. This may be the beer, which comes closest to a red wine I have yet experienced, and it does a great job by doing so. Drinks very soft, with a lively, well nuanced carbonation and a medium body. Tastes sour from the first split second, with its acetic sharpness setting the tone in the taste as well. Its sour profile is far away from offering a citraic crispness, instead the beer got a ton of matured wine grapes, which gets almost decadent next to the powerful acetic quality. It remains pleasant on the palate with its balance resulting from sweet cakey malts, rock sugar and sugar glazed grapes. Both flavors, sweet and sour are intense in this, reminding me of a joung, untamed wine. Got a soft spiciness at its peak, perfectly blending into the grapes, opening up the palate to a long lasting, sour finish. One of my all time favorits. So different than what you’ve expect from a beer and yet so mindblowingly good. I personally enjoy the pungent sourness a lot, as it constantly develops on the palate due to the slowly uprising sweetness, which turns out to be just as complex.
