Pours a brown ruby color with a two finger pink foam. On the nose its got some sweet cherry pie notes, touches of warm spice and a little bit of wet wood and earthy notes. The palate is ripe cherry, round malts, touch of tartness and some rustic wood on the late palate.

Very sour, less metallic tasting than Duchesse, hint of cherries and a nice red color ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a clear coppery red body with a medium, short-lived pink-hued white head. Aroma is sweet cherries, wood, alcohol, mild acetic tones and hints of cherry pits and white sugar. Taste is sweet cherries, cherry pits, dark fruits, raisins, caramel, white sugar and hints of balsamic and wood. Medium to light body, high to fizzy carbonation. Not bad for being a classic sweet Belgian fruit beer; this one has just enough of sour bugs and barrels in it to float my boat. Actually, it’s quite drinkable (although a tad bit sweet, of course).

11.2oz bottle in a taster glass. Pours hazy ruby/amber with an off-white head. Aroma of cherries, some sourness, light notes of oak, some darker and pale malts, and light notes of spices. Flavor the same. Average texture. A pretty good kriek.

Sample at SFBW. Kriek is like pizza, even mediocre is good, and that’s exactly what we’ve got here. Good overall, but can’t stand up to the better examples.

Clear deep red color, pale pink head. Some acidity, citrus and cherries in aroma, hint of oak barrel and leather. Taste is tart, sour cherries, tannin bitter, little bit sweet. Dry, lactic finnish with oak note. Body is low to medium, thin texture and medium to high carbonation, Quite good sour beer.

12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy reddish pink with very active carbonation. Pinkish head forms into a big, soapy mess then seems to diminish and re-form into a tight head that stays put. Neat trick. Tons of action on the pour. Taste is somewhat one note- tart, sour, lactic cherry notes. Oak is there as are vinegar and yeasty notes. Love the tartness to it, but it feels somewhat artificial. Also hints at metallic and cherry cough syrup. Pretty dry at the end. So close to being really amazing, but not quite there.

large frothy creamy (2nd pour) ilght pink head. excellent lacing. mostly diminishing. sparkling flat thick dark red body. aroma: citrus lemon, moderate yeasty, cherry, vinegar and light metal. if: moderate sweet and acidic plus acetic (vinegar). ff: light sweet moderate acidic very light bitter and salty hints; long duration. palate: light medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, metallic and moderate astringent finish. Cerveja complexa, com troca de nuances do inicio ao fim do gole. Devido ao azedume presente em todo o gole, não recomendada para iniciantes. Média drinkability. Levedura bem presente no paladar. Toque salgado no final surge como diferencial, contrabalanceando o azedume. Saboroso dulçor de cerveja sempre inicia o gole, sofrendo aí a mutação de sabores nessa complexa cerveja.140 s

Classic fruited ’oud bruin’, one of the last which is still made with real fruit; deep wine red colour under an off-pinkish head (clearly enhanced with cherry extracts nowadays - if my memory does not fail me, this was not yet the case ten years ago). Very fruity and estery with strong cherry presence but not all genuine, cherry extracts and sugar are clearly there; smooth malty middle phase with fruitiness and tartness, drying finish in which the sugar also lingers a bit, woody hint. Clearly this has become less ’authentic’ nowadays, sugared and at least partially made with cherry extracts, which is regrettable especially since the label still says ’Echt’ (real) Kriekenbier. I can understand the commercial intentions behind this, but then why not keep a fully authentic version (e.g. in 75 cl) for the real beer afficionados? Still, in its current version it is still way better and more complex than many other sweetened Belgian fruit beers so I’m glad this is still around today.

25cl bottle thanks to JefVerstraete! Pours a deep red with pinkish head. Initial big cherry drops aroma, lots of hard-boiled cherry sweet goodness in the taste. Quite a unique blend, vibrant & fruity.
