BlueDevil0206 (122), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jun 25, 2005 Updated: Jun 26, 2005 Bottled. Pours a reddish amber with a small white head that didn’t last long. Very effervescent looking pour. Aroma is of cheap red wine, metal, sweet malt and red wine vinegar....not looking too good at this point. Tastes of sweet malt and fruity esters (cherry and apple) with plenty of sourness characteristic of a Flemish red. Vanilla and oak present. Hops aren’t too apparent if at all in the flavor, but the finish contains some mild hop bitterness. Some champange qualities emerge in this beer. Finishes very dry. Medium bodied and coarse and it is very carbonated. Decent, but not as good as Monk’s Flemish red.
charlotte (1194), Vanløse, Denmark Sep 1, 2008 Dark amber colour with small off-white head.Aroma of sour cherrys and wet wood still soft and nice a bit metallic finish but overall a good beer. Scauca (245), Lovere, Italy Aug 26, 2008 deep burgundy with almost no head but a thin tan foam on top. The aroma is of ripe red fruits and slightly vinous, with some spices as well. Starts quite sweet, fruity, developing in a nice mellow acetic tartness. Good. ha1ag (233), Netherlands Aug 23, 2008 Bottled in Take oNe in Maastricht. Dark ruby and brown color, thin beige head, port nose. Aroma has fruits and port. Reminds me some sour ruby port. Aftertaste is like Shiraz redwine. Interesting, well composed beer. TURDFERGUSON (1136), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Aug 19, 2008 Bottle shared by emacgee. Thanks Ethan! Nose is strong cherry vinegar and wood. Flavor has a lot of wood character, some sweeter cherries, balsamic vinegar, a bit of raisin. Its not incredibly sour and just wasn’t very exciting for me. Not my favorite type of sour ale. GandGKevin (53), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Aug 17, 2008 Pours reddish with a nice white head. Initial taste is tart apple with a slightly sweet under tone. Very drinkable and refreshing.
