4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Of the ’old bruin’ style. Slightly less sweet than Duchess and benefiting from it. Beautiful match of acidity, malt and wood. Carbonation for this is simply joyous, enabling a full palate and stretching out the thirst quenching, almost puckering tart character. This is probably one of the best beers in the world, certainly one of my top few, such a shame it’s not more easily available outside Belgium. Outstanding.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
250 ml bottle. Clear, dark brown body with a small beige head. Nice vinous aroma with malt, berries, oak and mild vinegar. Flavor is smooth, sweet malty, balanced mild acidic, berries (particular cherry), dry fruit, light wood, hint of chocolate. A really nicce and pleasant version of Flamish red, less challenging than Rodenbach and Duches but still a very nice one.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very, very deep red to brown body with a beige head, ok lacing. Strong aroma of vinegar, balsamic vinegar, sweet and sour fruits and red berries, and a hint of barnyard. It’s mostly sweet, accompanied by a fitting light acetic and sour taste. Moderate flavour of vinegar and tart, sweet and sour red berries. Light body, long finish, smooth texture and moderate carbonation. A gentle and drinkable sour.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This pours a dark brown color with a foamy light brown head. The aroma is mild of sour hints. The flavor is tart similar to a lambic without the fruit flavor.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Clear reddish caramel brown colour, white head. Aroma of red fruits, lactic acid, cherries, wood, citrus. Sour flavour, quite sweet, caramel, red fruits, 7-up. Sweet finish, lactic acid, wood, vanilla, red fruits. Interesting brew, but too sweet imho. Regardless, it’s nicely thirst-quenching, and I wouldn’t mind drinking this on a warm spring day in the sun, for sure it’s better than a soda.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Reddish brown under a thin tan head, medium aroma intensity of roasted malt, sweet fruit and spice. Decent carbonation, quite high acidity, medium body roasty brew with obvious vinegar and sweet catchup. Sweetness overweight on the sweet-sour balance. Decent length and probably well-suited for some food, but not a favourite for me. Can’t shake the feeling of basically a Duchesse de Bourgogne with some sweetner.
