Bottle at Monk’s in Philly. Pours a cloudy amber into the tulip glass with a huge fluffy, white head. Scents of sour apples, cherries and vinegar. Very sour, puckering taste. Very refreshing with hints of malt, hops and sour apples. A very nice sour beer.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
From a bottle at least 6 years old (bottle says best before 22-11-07)....poured in a La Trappe small chalice. Pours a ruby brown with small head and lace. Aroma of sour plums, malt vinegar, tart grapes. Medium carbonation and big mouthfeel. Flavors of plums, prunes, raspberries, malt vinegar, currents. Overall a wonderful Flemish red-brown ale with more malt than balsamic vinegar notes that some other Flemish seem to have...and no artificial sweetners that some seem to also have.
I’ll admit I used to represent Verhaeghe in California a few years ago and have had plenty of this, the Duchesse & Echte Kriek. They’re all wonderful on their own but especially good with food. Tonight I drank this with a Thanksgiving turkey dinner and it worked well.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a light reddish/brownish hue with pink frothy head which disappears fairly quickly. Scent of sharp citrus fruit mixed with strawberries and oaked red wine. Taste is initial sweetness with a punchy sourness pushing through. Slightly too sour for my taste and 25cl is enough in one go. Nice oaked flavours, cherry, strawberry and lemons. Hints of vanilla. Great little Flemish Red and sharper, more mature than Duchesse de Bourgogne.

33cl bottle @ Delirium Cafe. Pours dark amber with a nice creamy, beige head. Aroma is sweet & sour, a bit yeasty, spicy. Flavor is moderate sweet and sour with a very good balance between these two, also a bit fruity like plums and some hints of chocolate all of which end in a dry note. Nice
