COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“Vichtenaar” is a beer, brewed with roasted malts, spicey hops, fruity yeast and soft water, pumped up from a 172 m deep well, guaranteeing constant quality and pureness of the liquor. After primary and secondary lagering, “Vichtenaar” gets a ternary fermentation in oak vessels during 8 months. These oak pipes are big tuns with a capacity varying between 500 and 2500 hectolitres. “Vichtenaar” is a traditional and specific Western Flemish beer, from the northwest of Belgium. Its taste can be described as mild-sourish and suitably complex, thanks to the long lagering on oak. This tart flavour makes it eminently suitable for the hot summer months. “Vichtenaar” is one of the last Flemish “Oud bruins” that are really lagered in the oak tuns, and are as such appreciated by the connoisseur, looking for authenticity. As early as 1958 “Vichtenaar” was crowned as the top in an international concours in Gent.

Aroma of balsamic vinegar, with some over-ripe cherry notes. Appears a deep red mahogany-tinged color, with a big creamy tan head that lasts. Flavor is tart but not too sour, with some sweet over-ripe fruit in the middle, and ending with woody notes. Palate is moderate, slick, and effercescent. Overall, an excellent example. My thanks to SoLan for this tasty brew.

Bottle, 250mL. Home. A clear brown beer with mahogany hues ; medium white head poorly persistent. Fruity aroma, wood, acid note, caramel. Medium sweet, lasting medium acid. Medium body, thin texture, average carbonation, acid-sweet finish. Overall, very good sour red beer ; better acid there than sour.

11.2 oz. bottle thanks to Emily. Appearance: finger tan head, dark amber red color, good lacing, light cloudy. Aroma: vinegar, caramel, light fruity strawberry. Palate: light body, average carbonation, thin texture, smooth. Taste: sweet strawberry and caramel into light tartness, comes down into light fruitiness and smooths out. Overall, very drinkable, very enjoyable, not that sour.

Old rating. Red-brown color. Vinegar, cherry, mildly tart, pretty big sweetness, little bit of hop bitter finish. Okay sour.

Shows the staining of copper bronze tones with a classic red Flemish such as Rodenbach. A head of pale cream foam, creamy, sticky, good stability and burgundy dim and hazy color. Aroma is pleasant despite the strong aroma of apple cider vinegar and balsamic. Surge bread, some beans, caramel, passion fruit, apple, honey, vanilla, brown sugar, wood notes, dried fruit. Medium body and medium to high carbonation. In taste brings a sparkling vivacity in a battle, the sweetness of sugar, honey like it was almost a sweet and fierce relentless acidity of vinegar creating a sour grape dryness with wood tannins in the background to give a distinctive finish. This battle between the sweet and the sour closes harmoniously despite the sweetness be slightly higher. We can note nuts, caramel, brown sugar, red wine, raisins, wood, balsamic notes to exemplify. The finish is long, sour and fruity, very good drinkability. Overall I found the wonderful and very authentic beer. A traditional example of Bruin oud style.

Bottle shared. Pours a medium brown color with off white head. The aroma is slot of things from sour funk to dark red cherries to Apple cider vinegar. The flavor is slit of dark cherry tartness with the underscoring of funk. Nicely blended. I get mild notes of the oak on the end. Overall a nice Flemish sour.

Pours pretty amber brown with really lively head. Considerably sweeter and less sour than I was expecting, but both were a pleasant surprise.

Flaska från Bier Tempel Bryssel. Mörkt rubinröd vätska. Doftar syrliga bär och ekfat. I smaken återkommer ekfaten och färska bär. Där finns även en tråkig sötma.

Poured from a bottle a hazy reed tinged brown. The aroma would attract any fruit fly from 1007 miles around; sour, fruity. I love the sour, but was hoping for more beer flavors. Didn't really suit my palate, but was enjoyable enough.
