2006 Great International Beer Competition Gold Medal Winner. A slightly caramel, medium bodied smooth Irish Red Ale. Rich, creamy and mellow. A VPB favorite for 23 years! Designed to be a session ale at 4.2% ABV. Very lightly hopped to enhance the appeal for the masses. A true crowd pleaser. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a dark red to brown with a nice layer of white foamy head. Dissipates at a nice pace. Moderate lace. The aroma started off with some toast, and caramel malts. Sly roast comes out as it warms. The flavor copies the aroma nicely. Light red delicious apple sweetness comes in for a sly balance. Crisp toastiness and malts in the aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice smooth semi-creamy mouthfeel. Low carbonation. Overall, nicely done Irish red ale that I could have again.

Draft pour at the source. The beer is a dark brown with a beige head of foam. The aroma is toasty and has big caramel notes. Toasty and sweet taste. Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel.

Draught at the brewpub. Caramel malt with light dark fruit and nutty notes, fairly dry finish. Nothing exciting but a pretty decent classic Irish ale I guess.

New England Bucket List Trip #132. Keg at the brewpub. Pours a slightly hazy copper with a thin fizzy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of caramel malt, dark fruits, floral hops. The taste is caramel, toffee, bitter piney hops. Medium bodied, mild lingering bitterness.

Tap. Pours clear red amber with a tiny head and some lacing. Aroma is bread, caramel, light grass. Flavor is medium sweet, no real bitterness, pleasant but not really noteworthy. Medium body, no carbonation.

2013-04-28. Crisp red amber body, nice beige head and lace. 3+ Mild, dusty toasty malt aroma. Flavour is similar, mild, toasty dusty malt, sweet caramel notes, finishes dry malt and lightly tangy. Average bodied palate, carbonation is mild. A just okay take on a style I don’t personally care for. On tap at the brewpub

Bière cuivrée avec une coiffe crémeuse. Un nez légèrement malté avec un peu de caramel émane du verre. En bouche, c’est surtout la texture qui nous séduit et les saveurs qui se dévoilent – une à une – en douceur. Ça m’a fait penser à une bonne interprétation de la Kilkenny.
