Rastacouere (5258), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jun 6, 2005 Deep bloody pinkish hue wears a light pink head. Slightly tart wheat nose. Raspberries over a minimally tartric jammy thing going on. No complexity at all in here besides mellow notes of toasty biscuit and sweet mint. Very very mineral palate, too much for its own good, feeling a bit harsh and rocky at times, tartaric and toothpaste like. Poor fruit beer. CaptainCougar (4624), Rockville, Maryland, USA Aug 7, 2003 Ruby red color with a white head. Tart and fruity, with good fruit and malt balance. Could use a touch of sweetness though. A decent fruit beer.
muzzlehatch (4425), Burlington, Vermont, USA Feb 25, 2002 On tap (12 oz) at the Pub. A big disappointment from this fine brewpub. Appearance led me to think it might be something special: bright red, almost opaque, a little head -- looked more like a Flanders Red Ale than a Lambic. Nose was fresh raspberries, nice, but nothing else really (this is beer?) Tasting it, you realize it has nothing to do with the fine Belgian styles just mentioned and everything to do with making a weak-tasting fruity concoction for people who don’t really like beer but happen to be in this pub and want to get hammered. Weak and thin, but with a definite alcoholic tinge, not sweet at all and reminiscent of an unsweetened raspberry spritzer. Bitter, metallic aftertaste. Stay away from the beer, try the pub’s ESB and Smoked Porter instead. MartinT (4307), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Oct 14, 2003 Sweet raspberries trample faint sourness...Faint carbonation pushes watery grapefruit to perdition...This is oak aged??...A raspberry juice for the non-beer loving friend... tiggmtl (4169), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jan 18, 2004 Nice sour raspberry aroma. Red cast body with a frothy pink head. Sour and fruity with an underlying biscuity base. Fizzy effervescence in the mouth prickles the tongue. Interesting to try but I could not drink more than half a pint of this one. On tap (Nov 2003).
