Sample platter 3oz sample at pub. Milky aroma with some choco/coffee notes. Pours typical stout color. Small maple in the nose as well. Chocolatey, thin, overcarbonated. More like a porter, and their proter is more like a stout. I double checked and the pour was accurate from the correct tap. Perhaps the lines were crossed?

Light malt aroma, Very similar to other Vermont Brewery beers. Extremely dark brown, almost black color. Feint roasted malty taste. A little more carbonated than I hoped for but could still use some more hops.

Near black body with little head or lace. Smokey roasty coffee nose is a bit weak. Dark malty flavors with a slightly dry bitter finish. Kind of one dimensional. Fair.

On tap: Pours a nice black color with a dense nitro head. Aroma is weak, mostly dry and roasted. Very little sweetness and complexity. Body is kinda thin, very mild, dry and roasty. Needs some more thickness and flavor.

Draft @ brewpub, cask. Black pour with minimal head. Nice chocolate start followed up by a nice roasted coffee finish. Smooth and creamy. A very good Dry Stout.

Chocolate, coffee and roasted barley aromas. Darkest brown with ruby highlights and dense tan head. Starts sweet and chocolatey but gets engulfed by roasted barley and black malt bitterness in the finish. Far more dry than expected but it works very well. I would have liked a bit more body then the medium-thin mouthfeel this one offers. On tap (Nov 2003).

Pours with a dark brown to black body with red accents topped by a medium thick tan head with little lacing. Slightly bitter roasty malt aroma with a slight musty, grainy note. Slightly sweet but mostly bitter and roasty malt flavor with a slight hoppiness. Not at all what I expect from a quality stout. Medium to full bodied and smooth.

Black colour with a light brown head. Very light roast malt aroma. Smooth mouthfeel, but watery. Creamy, light bitterness at the finish. OK.

(cask conditioned version) Big frothy white head that dd not diminish through the entire pint. Strong roast malt nose with hints of licorice. Black as night. Initial taste was moderately roastly and bitter with licorice notes lingering in finish. Very smooth.
