3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 boboski (1095) - Alabama, USA - JAN 16, 2007
UPDATED: APR 3, 2007 Growler, sweet score, guzzled on December 11th, 2005. This one got an extra point overall for being so damn quaffable. Pours a black body with greyish overtones, small tan creamy head, fully retained thoughout the glass. Aroma immediately indicates this is a fine porter, smoke coming out first but not hindering enjoyment of the base brew. Smoke in flavor is mellow, reminds of Alaskan’s take on this brew without bold hoppiness. Also has tastes of chocolate, roasted malts, maple syrup, apples and cherries. Finishes long and satisfying. So easy to drink I didn’t want a growler to run out. Excellent introduction to this brewpub’s wares.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 rederic (2559) - montréal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 16, 2006
Dark brown color, with a creamy tan-colored head, the nose is one of smoked mussels, bacon, roasted black malt, hint of black coffee in the aroma follows through on medium-bodied palate with a nice roasted malt smokiness character, black bitter chocolate accent, roasted coffee beans, hint of licorice, leading towards a smoke and roasted bitterness finish.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20 Glouglouburp (5562) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 4, 2006
Black body, medium off-white head. Some smoke on the nose. Very malty, syrupy mouthfeel with roasted malt and brown sugar taste. Not very smoked in mouth. Body is a bit watery. Reminds me of a lighter Calumet (smoked porter from quebec) and for some weird reason I prefer this lighter version. Good, much better than their Shepard’s Pie I can tell you that much.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 erway (1004) - Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA - JAN 10, 2006
Cask-Pours black with a frothy loose head. Aroma is BBQ pit with some wet cardboard and milk chocolate. Body is med. The flavors are oxidized but still all there; Chocolate and smoke, but that is really all I got. Not a bad beer per se, but poorly served like so many cask ales in this country.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Sammy (7035) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 10, 2005
In a word, bitter and smoke. Better I think with food than by itself. Carbonation not quite right, aggressive. Medium-thin mouthfeel.

I had this one last Fall at the pub. I remember it being less smokey tasting than I expected and feeling just a bit thin in the mouthfeel. Plenty of coffee and roasted malt flavor. Overall, very smooth and enjoyable.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Probiere (992) - Iowa, USA - JUN 6, 2005
Cak and keg samples. Better version number-rated. Better on keg. Veyr light, fruity aroma along with the smoke. Some chocolate. Mild, creamy, chocolate and (apple?) smoke flavor with roasty, clean aftertaste. Good mouthfeel.
