2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
A hazy orange beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is slightly acidic and metallic and dusty - maybe in part because it is over the best before date. The aroma is also slightly acidic - a little like coughing medicin, and slight metal notes from the alcohol.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
(Bottle 33 cl) Comes as "Biere des Fagnes Rousse". Reddish brown, hazy, with an impressive head, that never settles completely. Sweetish start with an odd, short, dry finish. Full-bodied and quite pleasant with notes of licorice and orange peel. 050102

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Excellent beer! Opaque muddy-brown red with big off-white head. Aroma is lemon/sour, spicy, slightly yeasty. Taste is complexly sweet(honey, orange, wheat(?)), slightly spicy, fairly light on the tongue, no alcohol to speak of. Finishes mildly bitter. Could easily be a session beer, which is pretty dangerous for an 8 %-er.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bought it as Biere des Fagnes. Red orange color and a big frothy head. Aroma has cherry, mustard and pepper. Hoppy, peppery grapefruit flavor. A bit tart and rather thin. Just a bit of alcohol noticed. Good beer overall.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottled: Amber coloured. Hazye. Beige head. Sweets and caramel in the aroma. Light sour. Sweet and syrupy flavour. Loads of sourness. Definately a bit old.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAY 30, 2003 Ok, my bottle has a little nymph holding a flower on the label, but whatever.
The aroma is malty and yeasty, with notes of allspice, caramel, sugar cookies, freshly baked dark bread and citrus and fuzzy fruits. Just a whisper of alcohol.
A murky copper color, this beer has a large, frothy, off-white head that diminishes slowly and leaves excellent lacing.
Nicely balanced beer.
The flavor is very malty with nice shots of warm alcohol, dark bread, dark fruit (plum?) and caramel up front . Lightly bitter and acrid with just a hint of sweetness toward the very back of the mouth.
Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. Soft carbonation and a long, dry, barely pungent finish.
Excellent Belgian ale!

!BEER HAS CHANGED NAME TO 'Bière du Fagnard Rousse'! (Copyright reasons)
Yeast totally in suspension, flunky, dull amber beer. Flimsy head, few big bubbles. Nose is lactic, sourish, a bit nutty & malty too. Taste: YEECHH! Infected as the plague. Tastes sourish, lactic (acid) again, some sweetness, liquorice-like. Warming up some coffeeish notes and vinegary. The infection is mainly lactic, which makes it refreshing. But that is about the only positive I'd dare to venture. What is there to say about an infected beer? That it never ought to have hit the shelves?

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark red/brown in colour. This has brown ale characteristics. There are earthy berry flavours that are quite mellow. Fruity with a tang, this left me a bit cold. Perhaps I was too drunk to care at the time...

Sweet earth, fueled by muddy caramel, lacks the confidence needed to ground and organize all flavors...Under it all, skimmed milk poured onto an apple sauce...Good ideas darkened by the absence of refinement and a dryish, brush of a tooth filling (nascent oxidation?) in the end...
