Tap @ ZBF 2013. Pours black with a small, creamy, beige head. Aroma has clear whisky, chocolate, light liquorice. Medium carbonation, fine dry and light bitter finish. Flavour has chocolate, whiskey, light coffee, mild bitterness. Okay.

Bottle at Nuetnigenough. Pours opaque black with a medium, frothy beige head, long retention with good lacing. Aroma is earthy, dank, and cellar notes with leather, leaves, dark fruits and malt. Flavor is lightly tart and acetic, dark malt and fruits, oak, cellar, and earthy notes with a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Draught Fast gone greige head over red-brown shot black beer. Nice whisky & wood nose, and fruity esters mixing with alcoholic features, to a very complex aromaprofile indeed. Taste is blue mold cheese, vinous rather than spirit. Again the character is complex, with many fruity vectors. Backthroar real alcoholheat. Not really full bodied, and a tad undercarbonated. Ends with beautiful long-lasting main flavours. Gives the impression of being based upon Oud Bruin. Excellent try - again. Long, deep, complex beer that is very difficult to catch in words.

Bottle sample @19de Internationale BierHappening, Zottegem. That was the name on the bottle, brewer say it may still change.

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2013 10/I/13 - 33cl bottle from Café Local (Anzegem, the brewers’ own pub) @ home - BB: 1/X/14 (2013-10)

GUSHER alert! Despite being warned and opening very cool after the bottle had been sitting straight up in the fridge for days. Just saying.
Pretty cloudy purple brown beer, huge frothy aery beige head, unstable, little adhesive, small sediment floating around. Aroma: cough syrup, lots of red berries, maple syrup, ripe to overripe fruits, tobacco, bit earthy, black liquorish, elder berries, candy, blackberry jam. MF: way too much carbon, medium body, alcohol. Taste: blackberry and other jams, bit citric, bitter hops, juniper berries, black liquorice, hoppy, elder berries, cough syrup, pretty fruity, alcohol touch. Aftertaste: some overripe fruits, banana, caramel, pomelo (sort of grapefruit like thing), some citrus, dusty and dry ending. This is not bad, but it is not a stout...

Bottled @ Nuetniegenough. Sampled about 5cl. The aroma has tart citric hints, some tones of wood and roast but that’s far away. Hazy, dark brown coloured beer with no head. The taste is citric sour, some vinegar, tart. Not much there which reminds me of stout or whisky. According to waiter this is due to risk with barrel aging. But if you use decent whisky barrels there’s no chance, because 50-60% alcohol in the wood usually kills all possible infections. So guess they were old barrels then. Anyway. Infected stuff nonetheless.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2013 bottle sampled - looked like 375 ml. - no label, written name with a magic marker on it @ 19de Nationale Bierhappening: pours a dark brown, black-ish with tanned creamy head, starts out nicely but collapses a bit fast, might be the glass, sample size etc. - smell is very light sweetish roast, rather creamy, very milky milk chocolate, mellow licorice - taste is sweet, very creamy stuff, almost teaspoon cream, roast is light, touch licorice, creamy milk chocolate, light caramel, caramelized sugar, some light herb, toward back, whiskey is there, sweet mellow, caramel, light apple type of stuff, no idea which whiskey they used, reminds me a bit of Connemara BA stuff or perhaps Highland - those are probably wrong guesses but that is a bit how this taste like - body is creamy but not heavy, at least not an impy stout kind of way, this feels more like a stout to me than an imperial one - continuing different, good work from this brewery //// Tried this one again @ BAB 2013 – definitely less exhilarating now compared to the first time I tried it. No longer a 4.4 beer for sure but I will still keep the old score
