I love oud bruin, so I was quite excited to try this. Very interesting, but lacked the body of some others in this style, and seemed a little under aged.

Pours light brown into a snifte. White head with little retention recedes to mottle surface. Sour cherry and raspberry aromas. Tart with dark sour cherry front to back. This is quite nice.

Brouwerij (942) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - SEP 5, 2013
Bottle. Pours a hazy copper with quickly settling, minimal off-white head. Aroma is mildly funky, tart, oaky, vinegar. Flavor is mild, tart, cherry, berry, oaky, vinous, mildly tart and sweet. Overall, the flavor is mild and lacking. Light body, moderate carbonation, feels a little light and watery. Pretty mediocre in terms of flavor and texture. Had high expectations for this beer, was let down.

Bottle (2013 vintage). Head is initially small, frothy/fizzy, off-white to light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy dark amber, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel), lightly yeasty (barnyard), with notes of sweet cherry, oak, cinnamon, sour apple, orange/lemon zest, cranberry. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively/fizzy carbonation, lightly alcoholic, lightly to moderately astringent. Very tasty stuff, since it avoids the things that I usually dislike in the style. There is no hamburger, ketchup, or vinegar odor. And it’s neither too sweet nor too sour. Very enticing aroma and very well-balanced, so it’s hard not to enjoy. The only mediocre aspect is the mouthfeel, which is kinda syrupy and fizzy, but that’s fairly common with the style.

Murky brown-amber with a big light beige head that quickly dissipates. Aroma of wood, funk, bread, and faint caramel; it’s pretty weak. Taste is slightly fruity sweet and plenty sour. Medium bodied, dry.

Bottle, edition 2013 from State Line. Pours turbid clay-muddy brown with no head. Nose is fruity tartness, some off smells. Tastes very tart, with cherry/berry notes, earthy notes, and a medium palate heft. Almost no carbonation in this. Decent, but not a great sour.
