COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Viborg Imperial Stout brewed in the English style like those that were originally exported to the Russian market. The stout we brew here at Viborg bryghus is black, full. We use round handed amounts of peat smoked malt and English licorice. The full flavor and the high alcohol make this a beer for gents and real stout enthusiasts. It’s hand brewed by the use of a gas kettle and open fire, and provides the pronounced caramel flavor. Top fermented and cellared in 4 weeks. We recommend it to accompany lamb, ox, sausages and dark chocolate.

Medium brown head. Nearly opaque black body goes deep dark red at edges. Roasty chocolate and licorice aroma with marzipan notes. Sweet-dryish earthy chocolate and licorice taste with herbal roasty notes. Fullish body. Mild, soft mouthfeel with faint alcohol heat. Dryish cocoa, butter, and licorice aftertaste with faint cocos notes. Very harmonic and drinkable. (0.5l bottle, Salling, Århus. Batch #17.)

25-JUN-2011, bottle @Skagen Strand, from "Salling" Aarhus. Pours pitch black with huge head of giant lively bubbles that soon resides. Funny - like a club soda, but dark... Dusty nose with licorice. Taste is sweet licorice, gun smoke, and chocolate. Do not like the dusty aroma. Turns a bit watery with low carbonation. Could need some more body. My first Viborg. Promising but far from perfect.

Stouts aren’t my favorite beers, but this is one of the lower scoring stouts on my list. Mouthfeel was pretty nice though.

Disappating light brown rim on a clear deep brown body. Milky roasted, dark dried fruits and port in the aroma. Sweet, roasted and fruity with an alcoholic warmth. Flatish and dry with umami in the finish.
