COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Translated from the Dutch on the brewery website.
Brewing process: Vicaris Generaal is made in three stages like the Tripel: warm fermentation at around 24°C, lagering at approximately 1°C and secondary fermentation in the bottle. The only difference between them is that the Tripel is brewed with one malt variety and Generaal with three. Vicaris Generaal is also brewed without spices.

- Ingredients: water, malt, sugar, hops and yeast.

- Tasting notes: Vicaris Generaal (8.8% ABV) is a red-brown warm fermented beer with a beautiful tinted head, conditioned in both bottle and keg. Generaal will mature in the bottle and is for the experienced beer lover. Generaal has a marked bitterness obtained by using roasted malt and hops. It is not a sweet beer.
- Available in 330ml and 750ml bottles and 30l kegs.

Note: Brewed by De Proef before their brewery opened in 2011.

On tap at the Map Room for their 19th anniversary. Pours a cloudy, deep brown colored body with a finger-width, creamy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is pretty malty sweet with a good amount of dark fruits consisting of raisin, plum, and a touch of cherry. The malts are somewhat bready with a light yeasty spice and herbal hopping. Flavor is similar. Sweeter bready malts with some caramel and a touch of wheat up front. More dark fruits in the middle with some yeast, a touch of chocolate, and more raisins. Gets a bit spicy towards the finish from the yeast and light herbal hops as this dries nicely, but remains fairly sweet and fruity with a touch of roast showing up late as well. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium, smooth body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a really nice dubbel. Fairly sweet and fruity, but it gets more complex as it warms. I especially liked how this finished. Nice beer.

Draft at maproom, fairly nice beer here. Big on the noble hops, red fruit and slightly less brown sugar. The blatant diacetyl is the biggest detractor, bit metallic, touch of blood/iron, light chocolate, grassy bitter vinous metallic hops.

Draught at TND: Aroma of malt, light dark ripe fruit, slight candi sugar, slight Belgian yeast, slight medicine, light caramel, plum, and fig. Poured very dark amber/brown in color with a large, creamy, dense, foamy, tan/brown head that greatly diminished but lasted throughout. Hazy. Not sparkling. Very good lacing. Flavor is medium sweet and slightly bitter. Tastes of malt, Belgian yeast, banana, light spice, light dark ripe fruit, plum, and hops. Medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Malt, dark ripe fruit, Belgian yeast, hop, finish. 8.8%ABV completely hidden throughout.

bottle@GBF 2011: dark brown with a tan head, rather dull, slightly sweet & bit dry with toasted malts, nuts, some herbs & touch of dark fruits, kind of light, not bad but certainly not exiting either – not sure whether I got the Proef or the new version
