Translated from the Dutch on the brewery website.
Brewing process: Vicaris Generaal is made in three stages like the Tripel: warm fermentation at around 24°C, lagering at approximately 1°C and secondary fermentation in the bottle. The only difference between them is that the Tripel is brewed with one malt variety and Generaal with three. Vicaris Generaal is also brewed without spices.

- Ingredients: water, malt, sugar, hops and yeast.

- Tasting notes: Vicaris Generaal (8.8% ABV) is a red-brown warm fermented beer with a beautiful tinted head, conditioned in both bottle and keg. Generaal will mature in the bottle and is for the experienced beer lover. Generaal has a marked bitterness obtained by using roasted malt and hops. It is not a sweet beer.
- Available in 330ml and 750ml bottles and 30l kegs.

Note: Brewed by De Proef before their brewery opened in 2011.

Dry and malty Belgian brownd beer. Not as sweet as the usual Belgian. Very yeasty of course.

330mL bottle, pours a deep dark burgundy / brown with a medium beige head. Aroma is super yeasty and musty, with light herbally notes. Flavour is very similar, with more of the herbal and some vegetal notes also upfront, with a very yeasty body. Doesn’t seem so refined really. Good, but needs some refining.

Bottle @ home. Schiuma beige non molto fine abbastanza persistente. Colore marrone riflessi rosso rubino, opalescente. Grande dubbel.

An extremely complex belgian strong Beer. A beautiful red color and every time you taste it, you discover something new! At nose is fantastic and it persists for long time in your mouth. Red fruits, but also coffee and a little bit of tropical! Amazing!

0,33L bottle, BB 07.08.16 (ABV 8,5%). Pours very dark brown-black with light tan head. The head stays. Aroma is dark fruits, metallic, malt, and yeast. Taste is dark bread, sweet, malt, dark fruits, roast, caramel, some wood and spices. Finish is caramel and roast bitterness. Overall: surprised by the intense handmade dark rye bread flavor. It really feels like drinking liquid dark bread.
