3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
on draft at spuyten duyvil - pours a dark brown almost amber color in the light. no head or lacing on the glass. smell is chocolate with a dark fruit and licorice finish. very little carbonation but leaves a more dry finish on the mouth and tongue. taste is cocoa with a kick of cinnamon and pepper. I feel if it was creamier it would have more to offer. overall and average winter Belgian

Tap at spuyten duyvil.. Pour is a clear brown with a red hue.. Head is light and off white.. Smell is roasted malts, liquiorice, very faint sweet dark fruit. Taste is roasted malt, toffee, raisins, cinnamon with a lasting liquiorice taste. Oily with medium carbonation. Not overspiced and crisp. Good beer.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottled. Pours hazy brown with a red glow and a small tan head, leaving a fair lacing. Aroma of toasted malt, caramel, spice and licorice notes. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry and with a little bitterness. Medium bodied, oily texture and average CO2. Quite enjoyable. ★★★★

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
(bottle, 33cl, vintage 2011) Hazy, ruby brown colour with a beige and big foamy head. Yeasty and earthy roast-malty aroma with notes of caramel, nuts and dried berries, accompanied by spicy notes of liquorice. Sweet and roasty bitter flavour, full bodied with a moderate carbonation. Roasty malt-character with yeasty and liquorice spice, combined with dried fruits and a warming alcoholic strength; sweet malty, roasty bitter and mildly spicy finish. Pleasant winter warmer. 03.II.13

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
33cl bottle shared with Dutchdrebus. Almost opaque dark brown color with some redness coming through. Medium to full sized beige head that diminishes fairly quickly. Don’t get much aroma but that might be me since I have a bit of a cold. Taste malts, some caramel, slightly liquorice and slightly black fruits. Medium body and carbonation.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Craft. Pours turbid ruddy brownish red clay color with minimal head. Nose is fruit, funky yeasty malt, hops. Tastes complex, fruity, tart, earthy, with mid-palate funky yeasty esters. Comes off like an 80%/20% Quad/Flanders red blend, and is very tasty.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Yeast in the neck of the bottle, a bigger sized, vast, sticky and slow disappearing vanilla to light tan ish colored head.
Smell is very light: some (carbo) gass, toasted grains, liquorice wood and bay leaf.
Taste is pretty full contrary to the smell: bay leaf, spicy, bitters, toasted barley malts and toasted grains, floral grains, light dry.
Aftertaste is bitter and spicy with a dryness, some toast, some grains, malts and floral.
Low (to medium) carbo, creamy blown mouthfeel, good medium body (close to full) and a thick creamy (light oily ish) texture.
Nice beer with a strong bitterness that does seem to dominate both taste and aftertaste. And there is no real depth, but furtherwise it’s ok.
