Butters (1622), Virginia, USA May 2, 2009 Sampled at Springslicker’s Fish Fry ’09. Clear brown pour with chestnut highlights and thin tan head. Aroma of a chocolate wafer cookie. Flavor is nutty, not vegetal. Very nice. Very tasty. yobdoog (1420), Woodridge NY, New York, USA May 2, 2009 I still don’t feel it is quite a Perkunos but all in all by itself it is a great beer. Well balanced, nice coffee and chocolate flavors. So smooth and drinkable. Very consistent from bottle to bottle and on tap it is just delicious. Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Apr 26, 2009 This poured a black color with a beige head. The aroma contains some chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, but some chemical smell in there but it doesn’t distract too much from the beer. The flavor is rather sweet with some espresso, chocolate, and a hint of coffee. Overall a nice beer. Suttree (2701), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Apr 26, 2009 Black, with a red tint. Aroma is a nice mix of coffee and red wine. Flavor is also a mix of coffee and red wine, maybe a lttle on the sweet side, plus a hint of chocolate. Nicely sweet at the finish. Very tasty. Birdiebeagle (777), Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 21, 2009 Bottle Pours a deep mahogany with a creamytan head. The head lasts well and makes good lacing. Has a good roasted toffee aroma. Also has a bready yeast aroma to it. Has good carbination and a good mouthfeel. The flavors dance on the tastebuds. Flavors of chocolate, toffee, and roasted malts. Has a medium body. A good solid finish with a nice lasting aftertaste, Guerde (693), Welcome, Minnesota, USA Apr 20, 2009 (bottle from kkearn) Pours a dark reddish tinged cola brown with a fast dissolving tan head that leaves a light film and thin ring around the snifter. Aroma is a massive blast of dark fruit, notably prune, with a bit of raisin, chocolate, and even a slight kick of hops as well. The taste is an even tone of chocolate, toffee, and lightly roasted malt that lingers on into the finish, which continues with a light yeastiness and just a touch of bitter hops. Warming leads to more of the dark fruit flavors present in the aroma, with some plum showing up. This is a welcome improvement, since the flavor was rather low-key compared to the aroma. The carbonation is a bit fizzy, but it does not detract all that much. The alcohol also never makes its appearance known. All in all, this is a very solid Baltic Porter. Thanks Keith! beachbum25 (778), Powellville, Maryland, USA Apr 19, 2009 22 oz Bomber-black, cola like pour w/almost no head. Full aromas of chocolate, & roasted malt. Very flavorful, roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, & pine hops. Very woodsy w/a little bit of a smokey flavor. Very smooth, alcohol was well hidden. This was a very good brew, & I’ve used the word very way much too often in this review, but I’ve got a very good buzz which this excellent brew has very much helped along! Rich mouthfeel w/a long full finish w/a touch of carbonation. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Apr 15, 2009 The pour was a dark dark black with good head. Aroma was chocolate, licorice and a nice hop bite in there. Flavor was chocolate roast, pine hops, where is the alcohol?. Good solid beer Mouthfeel was smooth.
