Snojerk321 (1919), San Diego, California, USA Jan 19, 2009 22oz bottle. Pours adeep brown almost black, with a fizzy tan head. Light nose of dark fruits like plum, fig, black cherry and toasted malts. Medium/full in body. FunkyBrewster (437), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 18, 2009 Pours dark brown nearly black with a small light tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and a lot of chocolate and cocoa. A small bit of toffee and a hint of floral hop spiciness. Flavor starts with a bit of fig and dark plum and raisin fruit. Picks up a nice roasted chocolate and bitter cocoa notes. Finishes with a delightful coffee and nutty character. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Very nice baltic but a little thin bodied. Well balanced and rich. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Jan 18, 2009 I have actually wanted to drink this beer for a long time, but I have never seen it until now. Pours out a dark brown color without much of a head on it. Kind of weak in the smell, a little bit of chocolate, and thats about it. Kind of reminds me of the heavyweight version of this, but I dont think it is as good. Taste is sweet and has a little bit of alcohol. Coffee and chocolate are abound as well. Interesting beer, but perhaps not my cup of tea as much as I wanted it to be.. merlin48 (509), New Tazewell, Tennessee, USA Jan 16, 2009 This is a really fine American Baltic porter, but no Pekuno’s Hammer, the late great offering from Heavyweight. Dark fruity aroma of figs and dates with some milk chocolate and caramel. Taste echoes aroma, but with prunes and espresso added in. Alcohol is hidden. Very nice. biznizness (930), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA Jan 16, 2009 Never did get to try Perkuno’s Hammer, but they said it was even better than this, so it must have been good. This is a tremendous beer, and the history behind it is ever cooler. Highly recommended. thehinge (244), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jan 16, 2009 Black pour with just a bit of red. Quickly dissipating cream colored head. Aroma of roasted nuts, cherries. Taste of coffee in the front end. Sweet, fruity finish. Very nice. Collint (452), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Jan 13, 2009 Bottle, pours a dark brown almost black beer with a tan head that quickly dissapears. Aroma is very sweet and roasty. Flavor is a chocolate and roast punch with a dark fruit finish followed by some hops. Body is medium and the end is dry and a little bit thin. Could not taste the alcohol. very good beer, but Storm King is much better. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jan 13, 2009 Very dark brown pour with a thick caramel head. Lots and lots of chocolate in the aroma with a good dose of dark fruits like raisin. Sweet, fruity, chocolaty, with a smooth mouth feel. Maybe not as bold as I wanted it to be. Solid brew. It’s been so long since I had Perkuno’s Hammer that I can’t begin to compare the quality.
