Commercial Description:
While Heavyweight Brewing deserves credit for introducing the Baltic porter style to many craft beer fans, this beer from Victory represents an all new recipe fashioned on the experience of Tom's original intense brew. One noteworthy difference is the higher alcohol by volume of Baltic Thunder, 8.5% compared to Heavyweight's, which weighed in at 8%.

An additional distinction is Victory's use of black eyed peas in lieu of Roman beans. Despite these changes, this dark lager still features a reminiscent roasted character that embodies the fullness of toffee, along with subtle fruit flavors derived from its higher temperature fermentation. Long, cold aging tempers this complex beer into a well-rounded delight that warms with its significant alcohol strength. The final packaged product will be released in 25.4 fluid ounce bottles.

"The first brew of Baltic Thunder was magical. Tom and his original co-conspirator on the beer, Lew Bryson, even came here to Victory to assist. Then, while sharing a pint of Baltic Thunder off of the lagering tank a few weeks later with Tom, I swear the spirit of his departed Perkuno was smiling upon our accomplishment," continued Covaleski.

Very nice looking, strong porter. Deep black with a solid tan head. Roasty malt body with a molasses sweet profile. Bitter burnt coffee bean note sand a tart dark chocolate component. A little thin and overly earthy but a decent pour.

Pours a dark black with a slight brown color when light shines through, thin tan head. Aroma is very sweet with toffee and caramel malts coming through. Flavor is very sweet toffee, some very light molasses and chocolate in the middle and coffee bitter bite and a little dryness on the tongue at the end. Overall a good beer with nothing detracting it all.

Bomber from Sams. Pours inky black, thin dissipating head. Nose is sweet and touch tart, ash, molasses. Taste is the same, clean and rich. Minimal roastiness in the taste, though it is there. Nice even chocolatey sweetness. Creamy and smooth. Pretty nice.

Pours thickly, black, medium head, quickly dissipating. Aroma is malty. Flavor is roasted, coffee beans, some chocolate sweetness. Thick mouthfeel, creamy, good finish, a tad bit too much carbonation. Very good, worth the try.

Bottle received via trade with zathrus13. Pours black with a small, fizzy, light brown head, mostly diminishing with spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt -caramel, chocolate, toasted-, light hops -perfume-, average yeast -leather- with notes of prunes and tar. Medium bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.
