boto (1319), Granby, Connecticut, USA Oct 1, 2008 22oz bomber: This one pours an opaque dark brown. there was a decent tan head on it, but it dropped away rather quickly. It leaves no lacing. Really rich aroma. Chocolate and maple are predominate. The taste is quite complex. Hints of chocolate, roastiness, coffee, some dark fruits. There are some hops in there that balance out the sweetness nicely. This is a really good brew. waolsen (1220), Littleton, Colorado, USA Oct 1, 2008 bottle. maple syrup pour with thin head. rich chocolate, coffee, toffee, sugar in aroma. bitter coffee, light sourness, hint of figs. dark chocolate last into finish. pretty solid. bp (452), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 30, 2008 Bottle: dark black with a frothy tan head, aroma of roasted malts and chocolate (reminds me a bit of Storm King), taste is malty, sweet, chocolate, medium mouthfeel, very slight bitter finish. Much better than I expected after I hear a while back that this beer didn’t impress. dunkpigen (328), Kolding, Denmark Sep 23, 2008 Pours black with significant red edges and a small head. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel and chocolate. Flavour begins with chocolate, then roasted malts and caramel sweetness, to end up with a frutiness from raisins and plums. Quite nice. thewolf (5662), Kolding, Denmark Sep 23, 2008 Bottle. [thank you, myrup]
Pours deep ruby red, bordering on black. A small, rather fizzy light-beige head on top. Sweet aroma, lots of dark chocolate and dark maltiness. Some toffee as well. Fine mouthfeel, medium carbonation, medium creaminess. Flavour is a bit vinious at first, some sweet maltiness. Then a great, balanced aftertaste hits me, medium roasted malts, lovely dark chocolate and chewy maltiness. Wonderful finish. Gachupines (290), USA Sep 16, 2008 Dark brown appearance with a tan head. Aroma is of chocolate malt. Flavor is bittersweet chocolate with some toffee in the finish. Body is a little thin but it doesn’t detract from the flavor too much. Overall, definitely an enjoyable beer if not quite amazing. mcox90 (618), Wilton, USA Sep 12, 2008 22 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown, almost black with a small off white head. Nose is malt/semi sweet chocolate. Palate is a bit thin/dry with minimal carbonation. Could’ve used a bit more body. Flavor was malty with chocolate background. Nice brew, but a bit one dimensional. badlizard (2326), Berkeley, California, USA Sep 7, 2008 Black with a fizzy white head. Chocolate malt aroma. Sweet milk chocolate and fruit taste with a smooth finish. Alcohol deceptively well hidden.
