Pours a very dark brown body with a large fizzy light brown head. Lots and lots of carbonation here. Fairly light on the nose, there’s roast, caramel, a little coffee, and an earthy almost dirt like note that must come from the addition of the peas. Pretty nice flavor though, roasty with bitter chocolate, dark fruits, and burnt toffee lead off, a little on the sweeter side. Then the alcohol really makes itself known before the finish comes around. Finishes with some licorice, burnt malt, chalk, and a unique earthiness. Fairly full and thick bodied, it coats the cheeks and lingers on for a good long time. The carbonation is a little high, but the more it sits the better that’s getting. It is fairly soft though, not prickly at all. I guess overall that it’s a decent enough beer, not of the same caliber as Perkunos was, but passable on it’s own. Not a beer that I’d go pick up by the case as I did with Perkunos though. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Jun 13, 2008 22oz bottle-pours a retaining rich light brown head and black color with red tint. Aroma is dark malt-some huskiness/roasty, slight acidity. Taste is dark malt-some huskiness/roasty/some chocolate, slight acidity from the hops. Dry finish. OK carbonation. gotohelunc (473), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Jun 12, 2008 Bomber. Dark brown with a big tan head. Chocolate and coffee aroma. Heavily carbonated with malty chocolate, coffee, and dark fruits dominating the flavor. A bit of doughiness. Very tasty, but not the best of the style. It could use a bit more complexity and balance. Funknmilla (577), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 11, 2008 Bottle...ruddy brown color...although looks black in glass--when full...light brown sugar head with a creamy appearance to it...smells pretty bland at first...then with air, light roasted malt and warm toffee, with a touch of caramel...very carbonated....after the fluff fest, sour flavors of toffee and light malt....its just kind of blah--if it wasn’t so carbonated, more flavors would probably shine...don’t dig the sour aspect in this brew....just ok for me--thin body as well....not a typical style example Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jun 6, 2008 In short: A fruity nourishing roasted Stout that manages to be refreshing. Very good.
How: Bottle 22oz. Shared on the “Stone-Bourbon-Barrel-RIS-Hype-And-Disappointment” tasting session with the Montreal crew
The look: Almost black body with a small beige head
In long: Interesting fruitiness in this one. There’s plenty of dark fruits flavours (fresh fruity mixed with sweet dried fruits) along with a refreshing fruity taste somewhere between tropical fruits and a fruit salad. All that held together by a juicy molasses. All than fruitiness swimming in roasted malts. The mix of roastiness and rich refreshing fruitiness is interesting and very well done. Medium sweetness level. I liked that one a lot. This successor of Heavyweight Baltic Porter is a success, more than a success it’s a Victory. Rastacouere (5552), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jun 5, 2008 Objectively speaking:
Pleasant Baltic Porter that is a worthy entry in Victory’s portfolio.
I like:
Relatively complex malty fruitiness reach many dark fruit varieties. Concealed 8.5% ABV. Well-established roastiness shows good development. Good all-around and balanced.
I dislike:
Perhaps not as interestingly yeasty as the Perkunos Hammer was, but on the other hand, I enjoy being able to perceive the lager character of a beer and was not able to find it in here.
kpresley77 (133), Jackson, Georgia, USA Jun 4, 2008 Bottle courtesy of yobdoog, pours black with thin tan head and little carbonation. Aroma is sweet malt slight toffee and taste is same with hint of raisins and slight toffee finish. Not what you expect from a porter but good non the less.
