PorterPounder (3132), Tallahassee, Florida, USA May 26, 2008 Savannah, Ga. - Habersham Beverage Warehouse - 22 oz bomber. Pours a dark brown - similar to the color of black olives. Decent sized off-white head that sticks around a while. Sweet aroma with some raisiny notes, a bit of molasses and some briny olive likes notes. Flavor has the same sweet notes with some chocolate, molasses and a touch of prunes. Mouthfeel is decently thick. Overall, a most decent Baltic Porter. jredmond (1015), New Jersey, USA May 26, 2008 750mL bottle. Pours a dark brown/black body with tan head and some noticeable lacing. The aroma is smoky, bitter chocolate and coffee. Taste is roasty bitterness, but still drinkable and tasty. MartinT (5026), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 26, 2008 Updated: Sep 9, 2009My Bottom Line:
Molasses and blackberry jam accompany diplomatic roastiness and chocolate into an approachable finale in this, a stately Baltic Porter.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam surrounds the burgundy-laced dark brown.
-The soft effervescence and svelte body (for a beer this size) makes for a classy mouthfeel.
-I had somewhat fonder memories of Perkuno’s Hammer, but this new incarnation is still quite good.
-Alcohol barely warms up the finish.
-This sweet fruitiness could also be redolent of figs, dates, or plums.

Appearance: dark brown brew with medium tanned creamy top Nose Light , refreshing green aromatic hops. Sweet malted ending , some sweet brown malts with wood like hints and plum spread 7+ Flavor/Palate : Plum , chewy brown smoky malts .Silky , creamy midlle , suede texture. Light , clean alcohol warmth. Substantial and solid with good character yet is lacking true Baltic spirit.
jimhilt (1663), Bow, New Hampshire, USA May 25, 2008 Pours a one finger light tan head that fades quickly and leaves a little lace. Deep amber almost mahogany color. Strong carbonation and medium bodied. Malty nose. Flavor is almost burnt, sweet coffee, slight bitter finish. Decent Baltic porter. $6.20 for a 22oz bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma. DougShoemaker (2855), Toronto, Canada May 25, 2008 Dark chocolate aroma, with a fine roasted malt, dark brown, small toffee head. Flavour has pit fruit, almonds, quite woody. Medium bodied, bitter, pleasant mouth feel. Very good beer, doesn’t seem to fit the style. Thank You Radek Kliber tmongoose (39), Louisville, Kentucky, USA May 22, 2008 for a porter this is pretty good...strong head when poured. disappears after a minute or so...not a completely dark color but dark enough. has a great aroma. malty coffee flavor with that alcohol flavor...almost a fruity flavor but not quite there. its one i would drink more than one of..i like it. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA May 21, 2008 Poured a dark brownish/mahogany with a fizzy off-white head. Aroma is somewhat faint, slightly fruity and flowery with a bit of weak coffee and alcohol. Flavor is nicely bitter and roasty with a strong roasted coffee flavor, a bit of fruit, some alcohol, finishing lightly bitter with a slight coffee finish. Body feels a bit thin for the strength of the beer. Flavors are all right, but I expected a bit more character from an 8.5% beer. I’m glad they’re paying homage to Perkuno’s Hammer, but that was a superior brew, in my opinion.
