IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA May 21, 2008 Poured a dark brownish/mahogany with a fizzy off-white head. Aroma is somewhat faint, slightly fruity and flowery with a bit of weak coffee and alcohol. Flavor is nicely bitter and roasty with a strong roasted coffee flavor, a bit of fruit, some alcohol, finishing lightly bitter with a slight coffee finish. Body feels a bit thin for the strength of the beer. Flavors are all right, but I expected a bit more character from an 8.5% beer. I’m glad they’re paying homage to Perkuno’s Hammer, but that was a superior brew, in my opinion. drfabulous (1212), Columbia, Missouri, USA May 20, 2008 Ah Victory. Usually you do me right. And, granted, this beer is not a wrong. But it somehow doesn’t live up to expectation. It doesn’t have the intensity I’d expect from this style or from you. I know you just build a new brew pub. And I know we screwed up by not stopping by when we were in Pennsylvania. But come one. This beer could be more chocolate-y. Richer. Fuller. It’s good, but not your best.. ironchefscott (341), portland, Oregon, USA May 20, 2008 well I think this is an ok beer...nothing too bad about it besides a lack of maltiness and general complexity...good lager clean finish and I can’t belive they use black eyed peas in this beer...besides that.....a decent but not outstanding beer sliffy (1966), Columbus, Ohio, USA May 19, 2008 Bottle: Pours a dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma, dark fruits, chocolate, some roasted notes, and yeast. Flavor, kinda sour, chocolate, dark fruits, very thin, some ashy notes, and more fruits on the finish. Just not very good. TheEpeeist (1429), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA May 19, 2008 22 oz bottle. Clear, dark cola with sparse froth. Nose is coffee, tobacco, prunes and some grape. Medium light with fizzy carb. Taste is coffee and smoky plum. Finish is dry and ashy with grapefruit peel. Good, but nothing special. jb (1024), Rochester, New York, USA May 18, 2008 Pours out syrupy, thick head initially, then disappears. Dark with orange highlights. Chocolatey aroma. Love the dark fruit initially in the palate that then gives way to more traditional grittier feel with coffee overtones. Palate is also thick, chewy and strong. A very nice beer. grandet (477), Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA May 18, 2008 Transfering tasting notes. Bottle. Dark pour with little head. Aroma of chocolate malt and some light hops. Taste of chocolate and coffee. Alittle smoke flavor as well. OldGrowth (1407), North Carolina, USA May 17, 2008 Bottle, from Julio’s. Good aroma, sweet. Cocoa, Milk Chocolate, Roasted malt, Paper. Clean orangy brown color. Small head that quickly faded to nothing, no lacing. Bitter sweet flavor. good roasty chocolate mix. Bit smoky. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Bitter dry finish. Tasty, flavor was best part. aroma didn;t open up the way I though and I thought was better cold. Still A good one to have
