Commercial Description:
While Heavyweight Brewing deserves credit for introducing the Baltic porter style to many craft beer fans, this beer from Victory represents an all new recipe fashioned on the experience of Tom's original intense brew. One noteworthy difference is the higher alcohol by volume of Baltic Thunder, 8.5% compared to Heavyweight's, which weighed in at 8%.

An additional distinction is Victory's use of black eyed peas in lieu of Roman beans. Despite these changes, this dark lager still features a reminiscent roasted character that embodies the fullness of toffee, along with subtle fruit flavors derived from its higher temperature fermentation. Long, cold aging tempers this complex beer into a well-rounded delight that warms with its significant alcohol strength. The final packaged product will be released in 25.4 fluid ounce bottles.

"The first brew of Baltic Thunder was magical. Tom and his original co-conspirator on the beer, Lew Bryson, even came here to Victory to assist. Then, while sharing a pint of Baltic Thunder off of the lagering tank a few weeks later with Tom, I swear the spirit of his departed Perkuno was smiling upon our accomplishment," continued Covaleski.

bottle. puny tan fizzy head (almost fully dissapated when it got to my table). no lacing present. dark black body. aromas of strong bitter coffee and light chocolate. a bit overpowering ethanol. flavor is moderately sweet overall. damn long lasting finish duration. almost velvety texture. average carbonation. okay baltic...alcohol was a bit out of control but when look past that was quite good.

Pours dark brown with a tan head. Smells of burnt malt, licorice, spice, chocolate, some warming boozy touches. Tastes of chocolate, raisins, spice, lots of molasses and candy hints. Mouthfeel is full with a finish that is semi sweet.

Big thanks to zathrus13 for this baby. Pours black with a lively off white head. Heavy malty nose. Flavor has quite a bit more malt, some nut, chocolate, and caramel. Finishes with lively carbonation, no hint of the abv. Interesting.

Pours black with small head. Aroma of roasted malt and nut. A bit watery on the mouthfeel, but rich enough. Flavor was mostly roasted malt- simple but tasty. Nov 1 Re-Rate due to drunkenness... Very dark brown pour with reddish tints and a one finger frothy beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, caramel, toffee, toast, molasses, cocoa nib, vanilla, and some dark fruit esters. Flavor is quite sweet with roasted barley, and chocolate caramel coming through most notably. A slight alcohol accompanies vanilla, ending dry and roasty. Palate is chewy, slippery, and velvety, with low to medium effervescence, and a dry finish. Quite a bit better on the second go.

nice nearly black coloration with a reddish tint, ok head, ok lacing. aroma of roasted malt with definite nuttiness to it. pretty decent brew here from victory- nice smoking roasted quality to it, though the mouthfeel is a little watery and the flavor isn’t very complex, which keeps this from being an upper 90s brew. really nice overall though.
