Victory Baltic Thunder

Pours black with small head. Aroma of roasted malt and nut. A bit watery on the mouthfeel, but rich enough. Flavor was mostly roasted malt- simple but tasty. Nov 1 Re-Rate due to drunkenness... Very dark brown pour with reddish tints and a one finger frothy beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, caramel, toffee, toast, molasses, cocoa nib, vanilla, and some dark fruit esters. Flavor is quite sweet with roasted barley, and chocolate caramel coming through most notably. A slight alcohol accompanies vanilla, ending dry and roasty. Palate is chewy, slippery, and velvety, with low to medium effervescence, and a dry finish. Quite a bit better on the second go.

nice nearly black coloration with a reddish tint, ok head, ok lacing. aroma of roasted malt with definite nuttiness to it. pretty decent brew here from victory- nice smoking roasted quality to it, though the mouthfeel is a little watery and the flavor isn’t very complex, which keeps this from being an upper 90s brew. really nice overall though.

Pours a pretty, deep reddish-black with a nice-sized head. Looks a little thin as it goes into the glass. Light aromas of dark chocolate and rough grains. Raisin, yeast and bourbon on the palate, which is rather short, but intense. Dry, empty finish.

Bomber. Pours a dark, dark brown with a tall tan head. The aroma has plenty of toffee, light coffee, brown sugar, and bread. Mouthfeel is fairly dense. I feel that this is a faithful representation of a genuine Baltic style porter. Some roast is present, but the strongest characters are found in the mix of chewy toffee and subtle fruit references which linger in the finish. Just a hint of buttery flavor is noted. I’m impressed with this effort.

Bottle. Held up against the light, a rich ruby glows around the edges and a dark auburn in the centre. The tan head is a quickly diminishing. The aroma is filled with sweet, dark fruits. Prunes and raisins seem to be the very noticeable aromas. Some dry bread qualities as well as a roasted coffee surround the sweet fruits. Molasses adds some different sweet qualities. I love the bouquet of this beer, it’s balanced yet complex. The flavour is also quite good. The coffee and bread qualities become a little more open while the dark fruits take a step back. The sweetness is a nice touch. It’s "round," a quality that dark fruits tend to have as opposed to a straight-up sugar sweetness. Some notes of molasses gives the sweetness a different twist and complements the coffee and cocoa qualities in the finish. Traces of alcohol are noticeable almost instantly as the brew passes the tongue. Quickly after, though, coffee and a lot of cocoa overshadows the alcohol flavour. For that instant, you’re reminded of this brew’s ABV (at least before you start feeling its effects). The finish is filled with cocoa and coffee. This is tasty.

Bottle. Solid opaque black color. Tannish white limited head, mostly ringing the glass. Granola, date, malty, and almond. Nutty. Below average consistency and body. Flavoring is mostly a carbonated sugary fruit with a powerful (and pleasing) exhale where more complex roasted notes shine through. Nice.

22 oz. bomber from Kappy’s in Boston. Aroma brings the mollases, dark fruit and toffee. Flavor: Fruit, spices, roastiness and a wierd, almost bubblegum flavor. Perhaps the hops and yeast bouncing off each other? Body is thin and clean. Light, dry and bittersweet chocolate finish. Not what I expected, but interesting. For $5.99, worth the money.
