CaptBier (301), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Apr 2, 2008 Bottle. Translucent mahogany color with thin off white head. Aroma is heavy roasted malt with notes of coffee and smoke. Taste is smoky and very dark and complex with accents of herbs and slight alcohol warming and dry finish. Nice to try but probably wont try again. PilsnerPeter (2598), Flushing, New York, USA Apr 2, 2008 Bottle: Deep brown with a ruby hue and a light tan head. Roasted nose, slightly ashy with dark chocolate notes. Decent body with fairly creamy carbonation. Flavor has a peppery bite, charred malts and some earthy cocoa. Fairly bitter flavor overall, heavily roasted, and somewhat peppery. Not bad. urbnhautebourg (974), Annapolis, Maryland, USA Apr 1, 2008 I found this to be soft and smooth with some nice dark malt highlights. The flavor was nicely restrained, but I must restrain myself from rating this too highly. A lot of those nice, restrained, softer beers that I treasure always have some identifiable trait which lifts them above the others. Here I didn’t find anything particularly special. Nevertheless, a pleasant-enough experience. mreusch (715), Olathe, Kansas, USA Mar 31, 2008 Bomber, with thanks to the man, john adam2002! Pours a cola brown with a sizable foamy tan head, minimal lacing. Aroma is a bit subdued; malty roast, light smoke, chocolate and some dark fruits. Flavor is also roasty but mild, with more chocolate, smoke, and molasses - I can sense a bit of that black eyed pea thing going on as well. Not too much interesting going on here - not bad, but pretty unexciting. The wife says this is enjoyable with Newman’s Fig Newtons, for those looking for a nice food companion to this beer! jehoey (766), Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 30, 2008 Pours dark black with a tan head that holds well and becomes a thin layer on the top. Aroma was nicely roasty with a bit of ashiness. Flavor was roasted, smooth, slightly ashy. full mouthfeel, but not overly full. Very good bigrond (1043), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 30, 2008 this beer was a very very nice porter. Had a deep dark color an da very warming flavor.
Tasted stronger than 8.5 but non ehte less it was a good brew. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Mar 30, 2008 Bomber, best by Dec 08. Clear, deep brown with a small beige head. Roasty malt nose, a whiff of smoke, dark chocolate. Nice milk chocolate flavors, roasty and a touch of smoke. Some fruity notes develop as it warms. Medium body, mildly creamy. I never had the pleasure of trying the original, so I can’t compare, but this is pretty nice. hoplover406 (204), Crofton, Maryland, USA Mar 30, 2008 Bomber. Looks like a Coke. No head or lacing. Fruity, sweet, aroma with some coffee and chocolate. Watery, thin body. Flavor is very similar to aroma but a bit too fruity sweet up front. That component domintates the other flavors. It’s tangy and bitter.Quite different from other porters. Not bad, but I’m not impressed.
