Great looking beer in the glass - black with a lasting tan head. When too cold the up front flavor is more fruity and sweet and it wasn’t until the finish that the roasted malt character comes through. However, once this beer has a chance to warm up a bit, the malt character really shines through and the sweet flavor are in the background. The flavor drastically changes for the better as the beer warms. Room temp may be the best temp for this beer to shine. TURDFERGUSON (1598), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA

Ethan is spot on in his appearance description--ruby brown with a small tan head and it is much redder than i expected as all the other baltic porters I have had have been dark brown or black and almost opaque. The nose is very sweet for the style with lots of caramel, toffee, molasses, smoke, chocolate, and some dark fruits. Flavor is much more mellow than the aroma with some more pronounced roasted malts, smoke, and a mild cocoa and watery finish. Pretty good baltic here, but I much preferred HW Perkuno’s hammer in its prime. emacgee (1864), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 29, 2008 Thanks abcfan. Pours a dark ruby brown with a one finger light tan frothy head. Looks lighter than I would have expected. The aroma is sweet, caramel, smokey, meaty, light raisin. The flavor is roasty and sweet, peaty, light smoke, warm, alcohol, meaty. The palate is pretty carbonated. Pretty good but not up to par with some others in its style. GreatLibations (1441), Last Supper, Arizona, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 28, 2008 BT pours dark like coffee with a tall creamy head. Good head retention reducing to a full fluffy lace. Belgianesque aromas with coffee and chocolate yet mildly. Medium full nectar with good carbonation creating a cotton fiberous texture. Thie brew is refined. It’s not as decadent as others in this style. Only mildly sweet and roasted with coffee bean, cocoa, vanilla, a little herb and bubblegum. The finish is a little weak leaving remnants of coffee. Overall: a good beer but a poor specimen. vyvvy (2034), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA

Pours very dark with a dark crimson hue with medium tan head. the aroma has some cream, chocolate, dark malt and very light roast. Medium / thick body with some light carbonation. The flavor starts a bit watery with light chocolate, sharp fruit, some metallicness and minor roast. The finish is sharp and is a bit sour. An okay beer, but on the underwhelming side. Poured a deep brown/black color with a thick, rocky beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, light chocolate, and a nice fruitiness. Flavor consists of a lightly fruity, sweet entry that leads into a nice chocolate flavor with undertones of roasted malt and more fruity flavors with a light coffee finish. Smooth, drying finish. Better than I anticipated, pretty solid beer. Thanks Crosling for just giving me this. tronraner (1911), Seymour, Tennessee, USA

Pours black with amber edges and a very small beige head. The aroma is quite roasty with some notes of chocolate, berry, toffee, and even a slight hint of smoke. The flavor is quite fruity, but with a prominent roasty character as well. There is a sort of woody character after that, along with some bitter chocolate. The finish is light coffee and alcohol, with a little bit of twang from the carbonation. Not too bad. Jblauvs (549), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 24, 2008 dark brown pour, tan head. sweet malty chocolate aromas, roasted malts. creamy mouthfeel with a slightly dry finish. an almost burnt, malty taste, but not unpleasant. well lagered, pretty smooth considering the abv. not as rich or exaltant as some other baltic porters Ive had the pleasure of tasting, such as smuttynose baltic, but definitely and interesting and enjoyable brew.
