Commercial Description:
While Heavyweight Brewing deserves credit for introducing the Baltic porter style to many craft beer fans, this beer from Victory represents an all new recipe fashioned on the experience of Tom's original intense brew. One noteworthy difference is the higher alcohol by volume of Baltic Thunder, 8.5% compared to Heavyweight's, which weighed in at 8%.

An additional distinction is Victory's use of black eyed peas in lieu of Roman beans. Despite these changes, this dark lager still features a reminiscent roasted character that embodies the fullness of toffee, along with subtle fruit flavors derived from its higher temperature fermentation. Long, cold aging tempers this complex beer into a well-rounded delight that warms with its significant alcohol strength. The final packaged product will be released in 25.4 fluid ounce bottles.

"The first brew of Baltic Thunder was magical. Tom and his original co-conspirator on the beer, Lew Bryson, even came here to Victory to assist. Then, while sharing a pint of Baltic Thunder off of the lagering tank a few weeks later with Tom, I swear the spirit of his departed Perkuno was smiling upon our accomplishment," continued Covaleski.

Bottle from Wegman’s. Pours a very deep reddish brown with a large, rocky, tan head. Caramel nose, sweet and slightly roasted. Big anise/vanilla profile; thin mouthfeel makes this one an easy drinker. Malty body is offset by a well hopped finish. Another winner from Victory.

Thanks to eaglefan for getting me this beer. This pours jet black with a one inch (2.5cm) tan head. The body was a bit thinner than I’d expected, it was medium. The aroma has some cherry chocolate notes. The flavor is slightly sweet, with chocolate hints. I was expecting something a bit richer. a good beer, but not quite great.

Bottle @ RBESG Grand Tasting 2009. Malt, roast and dark chocolate in the aroma. Grapes in the vinous flavor with roast and molasses. Sweet with red berries. Likeable.

There are some nice qualities with this one, but the body is a bit thin so it leaves the good chocolate and brown sugar flavor falling short. The color is a nice blackened ruby, though.

Bottled, thanks for sharing, iowaherkeye. We had this next to an infected old bottle of Perkunos Hammer. The Perkunos was great when it was fresh as I was lucky enough to have it a few times. This one had a black body with a yellowish khaki head. The aroma was milk chocolate and sweat. There was also some bread crust. The taste was strong milk chocolate with some caramel and tobacco notes. Decent.

My god I love it! it sounds like a European porn star name! male, of course. The aroma is this interesting blend of roasted toffee malt, and produce. Its flavor also comes off with an unusual taste. There’s a thin malt flavor with a at first, then a earthy vegetable feel. The black eyed peas add this weird little layer of complexity to the brew, which helps make this 8.5% brew go down really easily. The palate is pretty straightforward as well, smooth and ending with a tiny bit of chalky bitterness. Not surprising, another solid Victory beer.

alcohol aroma and nuts. Pours opaque black, thin head. Smoky, sweet and nutty. Oily, but smooth mouthfeel. A solid brew.

Draft at Exton. Thick head upon secondary pour. Aroma is chocolate milk with quite a bit of lactic acid. Some smokines and really milky.
