4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft @ tap & mallet, rochester. Very slightly hazed but probably transparent golden, I may need glasses. Lacey white head. Nice cracker nose, with some punches of hop spice...the nose is actually remarkably satisfying, not sure why. Flavors follow suit, more biscuity crackers and snappy hop notes...combining quite delightful. The body is medium-full, nicely clean and leaving trails of green-ish hop notes clinging to the taste buds. This beer is exactly what I wanted it to be, and what exemplifies the goodness that I know I like but rarely find in most lagers. Nicely clinging bitterness in the finish.

On tap at Brunzies. Beany hops and honey sweet with peas. Light pilsener malts. Medium pale golden clear with thin white lacing head. Medium body with medium-light carbonation. Light sweet pilsener malts with a bit of beany (noble) hop flavors. Solid pils with clean hoppy after.

(Rating #5538)

Good example of a pilsner, possibly a little more on the bitter/hoppy side than expected.

I haven’t rated this yet?! Anyway, I rectified that with a new pint at The Brass Tap - U Square. Pours a completely clear, brighter gold with a small white head. Very clean - pale and pils malts, straw, grass, maybe a hint of lemon zest. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a clean, refreshing mouthfeel. Great pils. This one didn’t quite hit the spot like it has in the past, but I’ll re-rate when I get another because I wonder how fresh it was.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Drier and crisper than a Bohemian Pilsener with a bitterness that tends to linger more in the aftertaste due to higher attenuation and higher-sulfate water. Lighter in body and color, and with higher carbonation than a Bohemian Pilsener. Modern examples of German Pilsners tend to become paler in color, drier in finish, and more bitter as you move from South to North in Germany.

My Bottom Line:
A herbal hop zing pierces this Kellerbier’s wet hay, as whispers of citrus fruit and honey create even more merriment.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy sheet of foam covers the hazy straw, lacing beautifully.
-If I have to find something to improve, I could say the body could be drier.
-The nose is surprisingly awash in malt aromas.
-This is not as slender and elegant as many German Pilsener, which is why I dubbed it a Kellerbier. Feels more rural in its intensity and flavor display.
On tap at Armsby Abbey.

Tap at the Brewery, listed as Tettnang, 27/11/13.
Clear pale golden with a moderate off white head that clears to a pond.
Nose is pale malts, cereals, light citrus, a little thin and lacking.
Taste comprises lemon rind, caramel light, citric dipped straw, pale malts.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry crisp finale with a lick of bitterness.
