Wildly assertive, intentionally untamed and dangerously satisfying, DirtWolf Double IPA is the culmination of Victory’s double IPA series experiment with whole flower American-grown hops. With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% abv brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties. Replacing Victory’s Hop Wallop® Ale, which will take a hiatus from the market for the time being, DirtWolf Double IPA will launch the brewery’s entry into four-packs when it begins to hit markets in October". “So a wolf and a prospector walked into a bar…,” joked President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “No, in all seriousness, Hop Wallop will be missed, but isn’t necessarily gone forever. We developed that brand 10 years ago as our flavorful response to the hop-bomb vogue of the time. But as brewers who enjoy experimenting with beer styles and ingredient varieties, we looked for the opportunity to do other interesting recipes as time passed. Making the decision to put Hop Wallop aside for a few years allows us to bring this delicious new double IPA, DirtWolf, to the market in bottles.

Darkly heroic, Humulus Lupulus (hops) have empowered brews with bite and character since the 11th century. DirtWolf is a tribute to these untamed vines which rise from the earth with the voracity of a ’wolf among sheep.’ Hops have made an assertive comeback in American craft brewing. Revel in the best US varieties of hops, in their natural, whole flower form, as they bring a vital, pungent reality to the soul of a wild element in our dangerously satisfying DirtWolf. Cheers, Bill, Ron, The Brewmasters of Victory.

Appearance: Pours a hazy amber gold with a nice pillowy head that falls thin cap.

Aroma: Big dank nose, tangerine, mango, peach, pine, lemon.

Taste: Citra hops or something similar: (please refer to the description above for exact hop blend) orange fruit and pith, low bitterness. Clean yeast. Finishes with medium bitterness. Dry.

Mouthfeel: For a double IPA, very dry, full side of medium bodied, nothing sticky or syrupy about it. Average carbonation.

Overall: Super impressed by this beer. I’m thinking I was treated to a very fresh bottle, which really maximized my enjoyment. I’m spoiled living very close to Firestone Walker, Pizza Port, AleSmith,Societe and Stone, so my kind of IPA and Double IPA comes from them. This beer for me, was as good as anything made by the following in terms of Double IPAs, I was damn near doing backflips. So for those of you on the east coast, and not close enough to Vermont, I suggest you put down that trade box, and pick up a fresh four pack of DirtWolf.

It’s interesting to look at the family lineage on this beer too. When I dived into craft head first, Victory Hop Wallop was at the top of my list. As I became familiar with other beers that provided more Wallop from the Hops, I moved away from that particular beer. Victory making a perfect example of a West Coast Double IPA with the new hop varieties has me hooked all over again, and excited for other beer enthusiasts all over the country that have to trade hard to get a dank, baddass hoppy beer.

Out of the bottle poured a hazy golden brew with a nice thick, frothy head. This beer has loads of everything that an IPA lover, which I am not, will love. It has full body. It has loads of malt. It has hops enough to make you pucker. It has citrus flavors and the aroma of cat piss. I may have to get my tooth brush out to scrape the bitterness off my tongue.

Bottle. Hazy orangey color with some sediment and pillowy cream head. Sharp smelling with a little cat piss, and I get a chivey-ness, and some peachy gummy candy, and a little grapefruit, and some floral. Is that possible? I get a little of the peachiness in the flavor then- yay hops! Will have to scrape my tongue. Haven’t had a good DIPA in a while. Happy now.

Clear golden amber color, moderate head, decent lace/retention. Aroma is floral, citrus, grapefruit, pine, resin, the whole show. Medium bodied, moderate to high bitterness. Fairly unique for a double IPA, there’s all kinds of goodness going on here.

Thanks cards04 for this one! Light cloudy yellow body with some head, quickly fading and some lacing. Nice strong pine aroma, a touch of lemon and vanilla and some resin. Quite bitter and dry tasting, bitter aspirin aftertaste, dry almost wine wine quality, a touch of booze heat. Smooth palate. Overall a pretty great double IPA.

Tons of citrus hoppiness, grapefruit followed by refreshing pine, solid caramel maltiness. A lovely hop bomb with a dangerously high drinkability :)

Yep some floaters, piney grassy hops in the aroma poured into perfection in a pint glass. Thick and rich this one is a winner pineapple at the end hold it back a touch. This is a solid D IPA. RECOMMENDED!

Bomber. Pours a hazy gold. Slick white head leaves nice sheets of lacing. Earthy hops and bready, malty aroma. Dirty earthy resinious hops. Sweet stone fruit and citrus notes. A bit of spice. Medium bitterness with a dry finish

Bottle, 11C. Pale amber, a few particles, large white head. Aroma of ruby grapefruit, citrus blossoms, peach, pine. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Sweet stone and citrus fruit, zesty and floral notes, pine not overwhelming. Dryish finish with firm but not rampaging bitterness. No unintegrated alcohol. A delight.
