Wildly assertive, intentionally untamed and dangerously satisfying, DirtWolf Double IPA is the culmination of Victory’s double IPA series experiment with whole flower American-grown hops. With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% abv brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties. Replacing Victory’s Hop Wallop® Ale, which will take a hiatus from the market for the time being, DirtWolf Double IPA will launch the brewery’s entry into four-packs when it begins to hit markets in October". “So a wolf and a prospector walked into a bar…,” joked President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “No, in all seriousness, Hop Wallop will be missed, but isn’t necessarily gone forever. We developed that brand 10 years ago as our flavorful response to the hop-bomb vogue of the time. But as brewers who enjoy experimenting with beer styles and ingredient varieties, we looked for the opportunity to do other interesting recipes as time passed. Making the decision to put Hop Wallop aside for a few years allows us to bring this delicious new double IPA, DirtWolf, to the market in bottles.

Darkly heroic, Humulus Lupulus (hops) have empowered brews with bite and character since the 11th century. DirtWolf is a tribute to these untamed vines which rise from the earth with the voracity of a ’wolf among sheep.’ Hops have made an assertive comeback in American craft brewing. Revel in the best US varieties of hops, in their natural, whole flower form, as they bring a vital, pungent reality to the soul of a wild element in our dangerously satisfying DirtWolf. Cheers, Bill, Ron, The Brewmasters of Victory.

Bottle from Bierkompass.de. Golden, moderate hazy body, with a big, stable, creamy, whte head, that sticks to the glass a lot. Aroma of citrus, pine, pineapple, many other tropical fruits, candy. Taste with the same aromas, also loads of tropical fruits, with the pineapple sticking out, some additional biscuit malt backbone. Mouthfeel is medum, slick, with a moderate carbonation and it finishes bitter, dry, with lemon zest, grapefruit, pine, grass and some sweet malts. Delicious! Perfectly balanced, not too bitter, not too sweet, with loads of wonderful tropical fruits, balanced by nice piney and smooth malty notes. Also really easy to drink, the ABV is completely hidden.

Dunkel lys gulbrun farge. Nydelig duft av friske citrufrukter og en anelse honning. Tynnt dekkende hvitt skum, heng langs kant. Nydelig smak av citrusfrukter med en søtlig honningsmak. Denne var god, ja takk gjerne en til.

Aroma is somewhat fresh with citrus, grapefruit and some gooseberry bush. Flavour has strong gluey tones, some alcohol, grapefruit and citrus. Aroma was nice but the flavour is just too gluey.

From Ales & Lagers in Kuala Lumpur. Appearance is hazy straw-tangerine with small white fine watery head. Huge sticky legs. Aroma is of citrus, spice, floral piney hop, almost a bit of corn. Tastes very, very bitter and piney with some spicy malt. Dry bitter finish. Full, slick body. Smooth and creamy with a bit of sharp carbonation. Overall a big, bitter tasty DIPA.

On tap at the Forge. Appearance: 2 fingers white head, golden color, cloudy, good lacing. Aroma: pine, floral, rye, grass, light biscuits. Palate: light body, average carbonation, bitter finish. Taste: light floral hops and malt sweetness, into a very calm growing floral and pine bitterness. Overall, amazing beer! Love the balance!

Continuing with my phone-cleanup, these notes are from Oct 26 2013 at the Tap Room in Reading, PA. Golden/yellow pour, huge citrous and fruity aroma, quite bitter. Feels much more like a west coast IPA, hop aroma and flavor are king here. Note: It has been a while since I’ve had Hop Wallop, I would love to taste these side-by-side.

Super piney and bitter DIPA. Love the full body to this bold beer. A true west coast style IPA.

Bottle from brewdog, sheffield courtesy of s_hartshorne. Hazy yellow ale with a stodgy thick white head. Aroma is piney and and slightly tropical. Taste is crisp and refreshing, not as bitter as most dipas. Slightly Prickly and medium body.
