COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wildly assertive, intentionally untamed and dangerously satisfying, DirtWolf Double IPA is the culmination of Victory’s double IPA series experiment with whole flower American-grown hops. With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% abv brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties. Replacing Victory’s Hop Wallop® Ale, which will take a hiatus from the market for the time being, DirtWolf Double IPA will launch the brewery’s entry into four-packs when it begins to hit markets in October". “So a wolf and a prospector walked into a bar…,” joked President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “No, in all seriousness, Hop Wallop will be missed, but isn’t necessarily gone forever. We developed that brand 10 years ago as our flavorful response to the hop-bomb vogue of the time. But as brewers who enjoy experimenting with beer styles and ingredient varieties, we looked for the opportunity to do other interesting recipes as time passed. Making the decision to put Hop Wallop aside for a few years allows us to bring this delicious new double IPA, DirtWolf, to the market in bottles.

Darkly heroic, Humulus Lupulus (hops) have empowered brews with bite and character since the 11th century. DirtWolf is a tribute to these untamed vines which rise from the earth with the voracity of a ’wolf among sheep.’ Hops have made an assertive comeback in American craft brewing. Revel in the best US varieties of hops, in their natural, whole flower form, as they bring a vital, pungent reality to the soul of a wild element in our dangerously satisfying DirtWolf. Cheers, Bill, Ron, The Brewmasters of Victory.

Aroma- Peaches right out of the bottle. Nice notes of various tropical fruits, pine, grapefruit, and caramel. Peach smell becomes more fresh hop dank as it warms. Very inviting. Taste- Each sip is a little different. Big grapefruit and tropical flavors, peach, fresh hop dank, and a fair amount of spice over a nice malt/caramel backbone. I can definitely say I’ve never tasted anything like this mix. The fresh hop is very well balanced among the other big flavors. I had to drink all four to figure that out. ~wink.

12 oz bottle, $2.50, Kroger Bridge St. Light golden, pretty hazy with big floating chunks throughout (not attractive for the style); luscious white head dissipates quickly, heavy lacing. Lovely aroma; clean, floral, grapefruit, pineapple. Flavor shows more pine, with some bread in the finish. Doesn’t show 9% at all (and I wish it were lighter, in truth). Finish is bold and bitter, but these hops have a fruitier, more pleasant, open bitterness than some of the sharper hops. Fuller mouthfeel for the style, frothy carbonation. Really great brew.

bottle. Golden with two finger head. Rather light body with big resiny hops with substantial bitterness. Alcohol well masked, but this still feels like a big beer anyway.

Mango, pine, rosehips, and cat pee aroma. Fabulous! Crystal clear amber, thick head. Apple and mango on the front end. Grassy bitterness on the back end. Resinous. Great hop diversity, nice intensity and balance. Elegant.

On my first flight of the day (17th March 2014) at Stones Liberty Station joint in San Diego. Deep golden body with a mini haze and a white pillow for a head. Citrusy hop aroma and taste, bitter and refreshing yet with a semi-sweet undertone that tries (but fails) to take the edge away from the hop bitterness. Decent in all aspects.

UPDATED: AUG 17, 2014 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark amber color with a huge creamy orange-white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was pine, resin, citrus, a bit of herbal hops and was fairly sweet. The flavor was tangy and sweet with an off almost buttery presence and notes of pine, resin, citrus and herbal hops. Long hoppy finish. Moderately full bodied. Decent.

Blond color with creamy head. Nice aroma of manure and cereals. Lean mouthfeel; very good integration of malts and hops; the malt is also a bit crispy, while the hop is resiny and a bit citrusy.
Very good.

In tap at the brewery, served in a tasting glass. Pours clear golden with a small white head that mostly remains and leaves a small amount of fine lace. The nose has big fruity notes with citrus peel, apricot, mango, lemongrass and a slight pepperiness and skunkiness, along with pale malts in the background. The flavour is moderately bitter throughout with resin and citric hoppy notes from the nose balanced against mild pale malts, tropical fruit and honey. On the backside, bitterness picks up with resinous, peppery notes. It closes out with a long, hoppy, citric and peppery note. On the palate it is medium in body with a smooth, watery texture and soft carbonation. Overall, a very nice double IPA. The nose is powerful yet elegant and the whole package quite nuanced. 2014-05-01

Orange gold, hoppy with hint of lemon and orange. Great DIPA! Definitely a repeater.

Pours a pale amber body with a frothy white inch of head. Staircase lacing cascaded across the sides. Dirt wolf is an appropriate name because his has huge rustic aroma. Dirt, vegetable matter, twigs, pine needles, moss and tree sap. Grapefruit and spice come through once it warms. Taste is straight citrus rinds, lemons and peppery spice. Loads of citrus in a prickly medium body. Crisp and clean flavors and a complimentary dose of bitterness along with spiced booze. Serving type: bottle
