Wildly assertive, intentionally untamed and dangerously satisfying, DirtWolf Double IPA is the culmination of Victory’s double IPA series experiment with whole flower American-grown hops. With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% abv brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties. Replacing Victory’s Hop Wallop® Ale, which will take a hiatus from the market for the time being, DirtWolf Double IPA will launch the brewery’s entry into four-packs when it begins to hit markets in October". “So a wolf and a prospector walked into a bar…,” joked President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “No, in all seriousness, Hop Wallop will be missed, but isn’t necessarily gone forever. We developed that brand 10 years ago as our flavorful response to the hop-bomb vogue of the time. But as brewers who enjoy experimenting with beer styles and ingredient varieties, we looked for the opportunity to do other interesting recipes as time passed. Making the decision to put Hop Wallop aside for a few years allows us to bring this delicious new double IPA, DirtWolf, to the market in bottles.

Darkly heroic, Humulus Lupulus (hops) have empowered brews with bite and character since the 11th century. DirtWolf is a tribute to these untamed vines which rise from the earth with the voracity of a ’wolf among sheep.’ Hops have made an assertive comeback in American craft brewing. Revel in the best US varieties of hops, in their natural, whole flower form, as they bring a vital, pungent reality to the soul of a wild element in our dangerously satisfying DirtWolf. Cheers, Bill, Ron, The Brewmasters of Victory.

Medium sized off white head, good retention and an awesome lace that lasts. Pale, gold hued brew. Lovely nose of spicy hops and some mild danky notes, earthy and bodacious! Body is biggly medium, fairly resiny, chewy and playful.Plenty of hoppy goodness thats damn near west coastyness! Juicy and resiny and enjoyable. Dry, fat ass finish with a gentle bite

Trade from Jasond612. Pours a clear gold, with a white head. Aroma of hops and grass. Piney and grassy taste, with lots of hops in there. This is an excellent IPA. Thumbs up.

Golden with white head. Good lacing. Aroma is pine, citrus, hop resin and grapefruit. Sticky and fruity palate. Aftertaste is bitter, spicy alcohol, grapefruit and lingering hop finish. Overall: really like the taste and the long hoppy aftertaste.

A very generously hopped double IPA. Lots of citrus in the nose and palate. Pours a deep golden with a short but sticky head. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz bottle courtesy of mikeq215. Thanks. pours a translucent golden color with a small white head that has decent retention. The aroma is strong with fresh tropical fruits including: grapefruit. melons, oranges and kiwi. The taste, unlike the aroma, seemed less vibrant. less energetic and less mention worthy. Most of the tropical flavors noted in the aroma were mellow, subtle and washed out. The malt base was neutral and transparent. The palate was full and smooth with soft carbonation. Finished short and dry. Overall: I’m speaking like a critic and I hate myself for it. But the bar for IPA’s is one set high and so there yo have it.

Pours clear pale gold with a short, short-lived white head diminishing rapidly to a thin skim, patchy lacing. (3/5) Nose is pine, citrus, tropical fruit, mild caramel malt, floral notes. (8/10) Taste is mild sweet, moderate to strong bitterness. (8/10) Medium body tending to heavy, moderate to low carbonation, slightly creamy and oily with a lingering bitter finish. (4/5) Nicely balanced yet hop forward DIPA, with just enough malt to support the hops - just the way I like my DIPA’s! Pleasantly fruity and juicy, with a very well-integrated ABV. Definitely a go-to DIPA. (16/20)

Bottle. Amber pour with a head that dissipated quickly. Lemon, citrus, pine, tea, honey, fruits. Medium body. Nice but a bit more body would be better

Hazy golden colour - the beer in the glass has not seduced me. Medium white head. Nothing special about it. Two minutes after pouring, no carbonation was even apparant. Except for the colour, this beer is like still water. Nose is malty and a lot of citrus, peaches, pine coming from the hops. Nose is maybe a little to sweet, but complex and intense. Lot of hops in the mouth - it is bitter, a little sweet, malty again. I get a touch of honey as well. The mouthfeel is a bit oily and resinous. This beer has a lot of body and the after taste is long and persistent. I’d rather have this beer after meal than before due to it’s heavy body. Very enjoyable one though!
