COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wildly assertive, intentionally untamed and dangerously satisfying, DirtWolf Double IPA is the culmination of Victory’s double IPA series experiment with whole flower American-grown hops. With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% abv brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties. Replacing Victory’s Hop Wallop® Ale, which will take a hiatus from the market for the time being, DirtWolf Double IPA will launch the brewery’s entry into four-packs when it begins to hit markets in October". “So a wolf and a prospector walked into a bar…,” joked President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “No, in all seriousness, Hop Wallop will be missed, but isn’t necessarily gone forever. We developed that brand 10 years ago as our flavorful response to the hop-bomb vogue of the time. But as brewers who enjoy experimenting with beer styles and ingredient varieties, we looked for the opportunity to do other interesting recipes as time passed. Making the decision to put Hop Wallop aside for a few years allows us to bring this delicious new double IPA, DirtWolf, to the market in bottles.

Darkly heroic, Humulus Lupulus (hops) have empowered brews with bite and character since the 11th century. DirtWolf is a tribute to these untamed vines which rise from the earth with the voracity of a ’wolf among sheep.’ Hops have made an assertive comeback in American craft brewing. Revel in the best US varieties of hops, in their natural, whole flower form, as they bring a vital, pungent reality to the soul of a wild element in our dangerously satisfying DirtWolf. Cheers, Bill, Ron, The Brewmasters of Victory.

On tap at Graydons crossing Grand Rapids MI. Good clean scent of hops and not much else. Taste is clean as well. Very well made, not just a hop bomb. Highly recommend. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From bottle, oranges, mango, grapefruit, hints of grass. Medium body, moderately sweet with moderate to high bitterness on the finish, medium carbonation. Notes of caramel, grass and pine in the finish. Really tasty IIPA

bottle from kihoskh. slightly cloudy yellow, smooth offwhite head. super nice strong bitter hoppy herbal hoppy aroma, with just the correct dose of flowery notes beneath all the bitterness. dry, bitter and a little malty sweetness too. clearly among the best DIPA aromas i’ve sampled. Flavor is high intensity bitter hoppy, with underplayed flowery and citrussy notes, a real hop-bomb, Not entirely as great as the aroma, but a very good flavor, and the high abv cannot be tasted in a bad way.

12oz to tulip. Pours a slightly hazy golden-orange. Has a slight amount of sediment suspended throughout it. Head is white and fades quickly, butt still leaves a good amount of lacing around the side of the glass. Aroma is floral, slightly citrusy, with an underlying sweetness. Taste is very bitter, definitely a palate-wrecker. A tropical fruityness is present underneath the bitterness, and helps to smooth out the residual bitterness. Despite the extreme bitterness, this beer is quite smooth.

(Keg at O’Hara’s, 20150307) The beer poured golden and nearly clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had resin, pine, grass and malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were pine, grass, resin, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy and bitter. A somewhat thin brew and beacuse of that too harsh as well.

12 oz bottle says enjoy by 24 Apr 2015. Not like a Stone gimmick, but just as a tiny date code. Pours a bright golden with a white head that sticks around for a bit. Fruity and pungent hop aroma. Very hop-forward in the aroma and flavor but not overpowering and no indication of the abv except for the euphoria experienced after a while. Damn fine stuff.

From a 355ml bottle on 5/3/2015. Pours a clear light golden with a smallish white head. Looks as much like a pale lager as a double IPA. Doesn’t smell like a lager though. The nose is lovely - strong, floral and fruity, with a touch of caramel in there. Lots of caramel caramel malt hits you on taking a sip, along with big dollops of peach and apricot, and honey. The hops are firm and grapefruity, but perhaps a touch subdued for the style. They linger in the background, though the sweetness ultimately prevails here. The palate is quire syrupy and the carbonation is average. A very enjoyable DIPA.

Very pungent hoppy aroma. Pours with medium head, fuzzy redish. Taste is excellent! Very well balanced with a not so dry finish.

Bottle @ Cardinal. Almost clear golden body with a medium sized, dense and lacing off-white head. Aroma has mild citric fruit, peach, grapefruit, pine and some grass. Flavor is medium malty, citric fruity, grassy and relatively bitter. Medium body and bitter aftertaste. Totally OK, but not as impressive as expected. Maybe the bottle is a bit old?
