Wildly assertive, intentionally untamed and dangerously satisfying, DirtWolf Double IPA is the culmination of Victory’s double IPA series experiment with whole flower American-grown hops. With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% abv brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties. Replacing Victory’s Hop Wallop® Ale, which will take a hiatus from the market for the time being, DirtWolf Double IPA will launch the brewery’s entry into four-packs when it begins to hit markets in October". “So a wolf and a prospector walked into a bar…,” joked President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “No, in all seriousness, Hop Wallop will be missed, but isn’t necessarily gone forever. We developed that brand 10 years ago as our flavorful response to the hop-bomb vogue of the time. But as brewers who enjoy experimenting with beer styles and ingredient varieties, we looked for the opportunity to do other interesting recipes as time passed. Making the decision to put Hop Wallop aside for a few years allows us to bring this delicious new double IPA, DirtWolf, to the market in bottles.

Darkly heroic, Humulus Lupulus (hops) have empowered brews with bite and character since the 11th century. DirtWolf is a tribute to these untamed vines which rise from the earth with the voracity of a ’wolf among sheep.’ Hops have made an assertive comeback in American craft brewing. Revel in the best US varieties of hops, in their natural, whole flower form, as they bring a vital, pungent reality to the soul of a wild element in our dangerously satisfying DirtWolf. Cheers, Bill, Ron, The Brewmasters of Victory.

Great hop aroma. A bit dryer than I like in a Double IPA. I prefer them to have a stickier malt backbone and be a bit... wetter? I guess that's the opposite of dry. Let's go with that. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle. Pours a clear golden color with lively carbonation and an average-sized tan-colored head. Aroma is intensely hoppy and citrusy with a touch of pine. Quite citrusy in flavor and very bitter. Medium bodied with a long, bitter finish. Pretty good.

355ml bottle from Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York. Hazy orange in colour with a thin but lasting white head, excellent lacing. The aroma is very fruity, sweet, pine and citrus hops. The flavour is quite juicy, lots of grapefruit citrus, pine, malty. Finishes warming, hoppy.

Wonderful aromas of tropical fruits. The taste is a little worse but still fruity but heavy bitter taste. Heavy bitterness in the aftertaste that fills the mouth forever. Still think that this beer gets better the hotter it gets. But not too hot. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

Bottle @ home. Almost clear deep golden color and an off-white creamy head with some lacing. Nose is sweet and has pine apple, grape, resins, caramel, sweet toffee, pine needles & some mango. Big mouth feel with an oily texture. Taste is sweet and hoppy with pine apple, grape and orange up front and an almost instant bitterness. Well balanced by toffee, caramel and bread. Some residual sweetness in the after taste along with resin, pine needles, toast and an assertive and lasting grape bitterness.

I really like this one. Almost golden yellow with slight haze. A fresh fruit and flower aroma. Taste is fresh and bold, refreshing but a hint of some alcohol I. A good way. No bitterness, not sweet an almost perfect balance... To easy to drink, meaning that it is so good you could easily be more drunk than you planned to... Hmm already I want another...

(bottle) Very cloudy, light orange beer with a medium, creamy, dissipating white head that leaves thick lace on the glass. Complex fruity and floral aroma; citrus and grass hops up front, blood orange, some earthiness. Fully body. Flavor of blood orange, flowers, bready malt.

12 oz bottle: Aroma is big on hops, citrus, Simcoe, grapefruit and no real malt notes in the scent. Appearance is a slightly cloudy golden with a thick white head that diminishes slowly. Taste is big on hops upfront with a grapefruit note melding into a slight pine, and ending with a sticky resin like note. Palate is medium carbonation with a sticky resin aftertaste that lingers. Overall, It’s an average Imperial IPA. Nothing really to make it stick out from the crowd. Cheers!
