Wildly assertive, intentionally untamed and dangerously satisfying, DirtWolf Double IPA is the culmination of Victory’s double IPA series experiment with whole flower American-grown hops. With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% abv brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties. Replacing Victory’s Hop Wallop® Ale, which will take a hiatus from the market for the time being, DirtWolf Double IPA will launch the brewery’s entry into four-packs when it begins to hit markets in October". “So a wolf and a prospector walked into a bar…,” joked President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “No, in all seriousness, Hop Wallop will be missed, but isn’t necessarily gone forever. We developed that brand 10 years ago as our flavorful response to the hop-bomb vogue of the time. But as brewers who enjoy experimenting with beer styles and ingredient varieties, we looked for the opportunity to do other interesting recipes as time passed. Making the decision to put Hop Wallop aside for a few years allows us to bring this delicious new double IPA, DirtWolf, to the market in bottles.

Darkly heroic, Humulus Lupulus (hops) have empowered brews with bite and character since the 11th century. DirtWolf is a tribute to these untamed vines which rise from the earth with the voracity of a ’wolf among sheep.’ Hops have made an assertive comeback in American craft brewing. Revel in the best US varieties of hops, in their natural, whole flower form, as they bring a vital, pungent reality to the soul of a wild element in our dangerously satisfying DirtWolf. Cheers, Bill, Ron, The Brewmasters of Victory.

Orange color with little foam. The smell is quite sweet. The taste is malty sweet and bitter tart. The aftertaste is sweet and tart as well. The viscosity is creamy and a little oily. A little boozy.

Orange-golden color with big white head. Aroma is tropical fruits, grapefruit, caramel. Taste has a big punch, more tropical fruits and pines, and a good toasty malt body. Warming bitter finish. This is seriously good!

Bottle from Mane Liquor. This is my type of IIPA. Seriously sensational. Nose is loaded with tropical fruits and citric bite and all that hits you in the taste with no hint of the abv. One of the best American doubles I’ve had in Aus

Bottle. Medium golden body, slightly hazy, lasting white head. Beautiful fresh white grapefruit aroma. The hoppy aromatics are comparatively repressed on the palate, but there is still that oily grapefruit rind character with a scathing long bitterness in the finish. Malts are pale with low sweetness.

Bottle courtesy Omgrich of and shared with the Shape crew.

Bottle at KØ15. Mild grassy aroma. Cloudy golden colour. Small stable white head. The flavour is nicely caramelly with a good clean bitterness. Piney and refreshing.

4-pack. Kind of on the light side of color, which means not much, if any, crystal malts. This is really about the hops. American hops, a bit more pine than citrus, but they’re both there. Dry on the back, but not bitter. Well made.

12pz bottle. 8/17/15 code date. Appearance: clear, golden, with a quickly dissipating white head. Aroma: Tropical fruit bursts up front, dominated by pineapple and melon. Also hops notes of fresh grass and grapefruit. Taste: Sweet light maltiness and bursts of fruit from the hops. Melon, grapefruit, pineapple, and grass. Bitterness intertwines nicely at the finish. Strong but balances well. Mouthfeel: Light to moderate body, with a higher carbonation than most IIPAs. Hint of alcohol warmth, but well hidden for the style. Finish: extremely well balanced. Some dryness and lingering bitterness but balance is much better than typical IIPAs. Hint of tropical fruit in the tongu. Overall: Great IIPA that definitely fits into the "new school", leaning much more toward tropical fruit hop notes than resin, pine, and citrus. Unbelievable balance.
