Wildly assertive, intentionally untamed and dangerously satisfying, DirtWolf Double IPA is the culmination of Victory’s double IPA series experiment with whole flower American-grown hops. With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% abv brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties. Replacing Victory’s Hop Wallop® Ale, which will take a hiatus from the market for the time being, DirtWolf Double IPA will launch the brewery’s entry into four-packs when it begins to hit markets in October". “So a wolf and a prospector walked into a bar…,” joked President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “No, in all seriousness, Hop Wallop will be missed, but isn’t necessarily gone forever. We developed that brand 10 years ago as our flavorful response to the hop-bomb vogue of the time. But as brewers who enjoy experimenting with beer styles and ingredient varieties, we looked for the opportunity to do other interesting recipes as time passed. Making the decision to put Hop Wallop aside for a few years allows us to bring this delicious new double IPA, DirtWolf, to the market in bottles.

Draft at Funcks. Clear golden color. Very nice aroma of tropical fruits and citrus flavors for the hops. Medium to medium large bitterness. Some warming alcohol. Creamy texture. Slightly oily. Average carbonation. Great beer. Aroma is better but still a good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Beer pours cloudy, golden yellow color with an egg white head that is retained and produces copious lacing. Aroma is profoundly hoppy with strong grapefruit and dank aromas. Taste is very nicely bitter. Taste is bitter from start to finish. I really like this beer as it has none of the sweet artifacts that many double IPAs produce. Absolutely delicious!!!

Gold pour, off white head. Tropical fruits, fresh, florals, light malts, and grass. Nice palate, resiny, florals, sticky, hint of alcohol in the finish.

I liked this one, the aroma was sharp and so was the bitter taste. As it warmed up I got lots of tropical fruits and soft caramel notes. The alcohol is fairly noticeable, but that’s what I like in most beers anyways.

On draught at Roscoe’s Fifth Annual IPA Summit. Full clear golden color. Pine and herbal earthy aroma. Taste is herbal tea, grapefruit and berry juice, floral notes, and tart caramel. Dry mouthfeel, with a lightly bitter floral and malty finish.

Gold color out of the bottle with a short lived off white head. Sharp hop nose with lots of pine, pinching citrus, and a whiff of sweaty underarm. Very well balanced for a big hoppy beer. Tons of pine with some grapefruit and apricot notes with some caramel sweetness and baguette. Long hop bitterness in the finish. The ABV just hangs in the back and sneaks up on you. Very nice hop bomb.

Pours hazy straw yellow. Two inch head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma of spring fields, lemon zest. Full bodied, awesome bitterness with hints of lemon, grapefruit, oily herbs and dandelion. Nice malty backbone. Finishes dry with a bit a warmth from the alcohol with a taste of lingering herbs. This is World Class stuff.

UPDATED: MAR 30, 2014 Blonde with gold/orangish tinge, quickly dissipating head, tropic fruity nose, good palate with more complex flavor than nose, malt sweetness is present, hop bitterness at the finish, finish is just not right/off
