Wildly assertive, intentionally untamed and dangerously satisfying, DirtWolf Double IPA is the culmination of Victory’s double IPA series experiment with whole flower American-grown hops. With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% abv brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties. Replacing Victory’s Hop Wallop® Ale, which will take a hiatus from the market for the time being, DirtWolf Double IPA will launch the brewery’s entry into four-packs when it begins to hit markets in October". “So a wolf and a prospector walked into a bar…,” joked President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “No, in all seriousness, Hop Wallop will be missed, but isn’t necessarily gone forever. We developed that brand 10 years ago as our flavorful response to the hop-bomb vogue of the time. But as brewers who enjoy experimenting with beer styles and ingredient varieties, we looked for the opportunity to do other interesting recipes as time passed. Making the decision to put Hop Wallop aside for a few years allows us to bring this delicious new double IPA, DirtWolf, to the market in bottles.

Darkly heroic, Humulus Lupulus (hops) have empowered brews with bite and character since the 11th century. DirtWolf is a tribute to these untamed vines which rise from the earth with the voracity of a ’wolf among sheep.’ Hops have made an assertive comeback in American craft brewing. Revel in the best US varieties of hops, in their natural, whole flower form, as they bring a vital, pungent reality to the soul of a wild element in our dangerously satisfying DirtWolf. Cheers, Bill, Ron, The Brewmasters of Victory.

Nice hop smell- just like fresh hops. The grapefruit and citrus flavors hit you up front. There isn’t a lot of malt flavor, and I didn’t taste the alcohol, though I could tell this was strong. Not too bitter. Very good overall, but not quite up to lagunitas sucks or nugget nectar standards in my opinion.

Aroma: Huge blast of orange, lemon, pepper, dank. Appearance: Pale straw with a more generous head than many doubles. Taste: Medium sweetness with a lot of malt moving into the citrus. Orange rind, lemon/lime. Heavy bitterness. Palate: Medium to full body with a creamy and oily mouthfeel. Nice lingering bitter finish that sticks to the cheeks. Overall: Very nice double IPA that strays from the rest of the pack.

Pours light orange with a big citrus aroma. Very bitter first sip smacks the tongue and finishes super citrusy and piney. Strong notes of hop resin, black pepper and orange lingers for a while in your mouth. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Half a pint from a BrewDog keg. Appearance- cloudy, golden, a one finger white head. Aroma- lots of fruit, especially grapefruit and orange. Citrus fruit, very hoppy. Taste is big- very bitter, a full mouthfeel- a little bit creamy in the mouth. lots of tangerine and orange peel, plenty of hop resins, lemons and a hint of lime, a very long finish. Gyllengul öl med vitt skum. Doften är främst citrus men även karamell och lätt kryddighet. Samma i smaken med en del extra fruktighet.

Thin head of white bubbles with minimal carbonation. Nice citrusy hops aroma with some pineapple, caramel malts and some mild cheddar cheese. Color is a nice bright golden orange. Noticable alcohol presence and warming. More citrusy hops and caramel in the flavor. Moderate bitterness but is balanced very well. Some herbal flavors, bitter orange and mint. Finishes dry and a bit pasty from the bitterness. A very good IIPA!!

Single bottle from W&M Mansfield. Pours out a cloudy-hazy light golden color. Some stuff floating around. Honey-spice-pine aromas. Flavor is quite bland at first. Much better as it warms. Somewhat peppery, like a good saison, but plenty of spicy bitterness. Slight bit of citrus too. Very good overall.

On tap. Big head. Well carbonated. I’m getting a dirty sock filed with sliced grapefruit. Mellow thick and sweet. Tastes flat, and the aroma is funky. Might be the glass... unfortunate. Not fanatic.
