COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wildly assertive, intentionally untamed and dangerously satisfying, DirtWolf Double IPA is the culmination of Victory’s double IPA series experiment with whole flower American-grown hops. With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% abv brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties. Replacing Victory’s Hop Wallop® Ale, which will take a hiatus from the market for the time being, DirtWolf Double IPA will launch the brewery’s entry into four-packs when it begins to hit markets in October". “So a wolf and a prospector walked into a bar…,” joked President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “No, in all seriousness, Hop Wallop will be missed, but isn’t necessarily gone forever. We developed that brand 10 years ago as our flavorful response to the hop-bomb vogue of the time. But as brewers who enjoy experimenting with beer styles and ingredient varieties, we looked for the opportunity to do other interesting recipes as time passed. Making the decision to put Hop Wallop aside for a few years allows us to bring this delicious new double IPA, DirtWolf, to the market in bottles.

Darkly heroic, Humulus Lupulus (hops) have empowered brews with bite and character since the 11th century. DirtWolf is a tribute to these untamed vines which rise from the earth with the voracity of a ’wolf among sheep.’ Hops have made an assertive comeback in American craft brewing. Revel in the best US varieties of hops, in their natural, whole flower form, as they bring a vital, pungent reality to the soul of a wild element in our dangerously satisfying DirtWolf. Cheers, Bill, Ron, The Brewmasters of Victory.

Decent DIPA, not really my style, very hoppy and bitter, but doesn’t have much else in the way of flavor or complexity, felt a little empty on the back end to me...still worth a shot.

Looks like carbonated honey. Citrus and pine but with a dark earthiness adding a different twist.

Well balanced hops with mellow citrus notes make this an easy favorite. First time enjoying this double IPA and would not hesitate to buy more of this.

The Dirt Wold Double IPA was less than I expected. A double IPA in my mind should take a regular IPA to another level. The brew was smooth; however, but nothing to write home about. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pale yellow, hazy pour, white head, about two fingers thick. Fresh and very hoppy flavour. Taste is also very hoppy as expected from a DIPA. Somewhat bitter finish. Mouthfeel is smooth and soft, mild carbonation. Not super impressive but it’s a nice double IPA.

Pours a little dark for a DIPA with a strong, hoppy nose but not too much on the floral side. Flavor is rich in hops that are clearly not of the typical West-coast variety, and there’s a slight earthy flavor to it that a few other IPAs have that isn’t my favorite. Balance is a little too boozy. Sticky and fairly short finish. Decent but less of a hop monster than I like for big IPAs.

Bottle. Hazy golden, offwhite head. Lychee and citrus aroma. Orange marmelade, light spice. Medium light body, slick. Hop forward tropical, grassy, ever so slightly cloying.

Very nice tropical, grapefruit, citrusy hop aroma with a slight pine and nice malt. Taste is the same feels like a ton of malt balancing the hops, but not sticky or sweet. Very balanced. Hops balance the malt and malt balances the hops, neither really wins. Really great. No piney resinous finish, but has pine in the finish, not sticky but enough sweet malt to balance the hops. Well done. I need to have more victory beers. They have really impressed me with the ones I have tried. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Thin-headed golden pour. Bready aroma with some citrus - very pleasant. Flavors of malt, pine in the middle, and mellow lingering citrus finish. Well balanced, and incredibly smooth on the palate for a dipa at this abv.
