COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wildly assertive, intentionally untamed and dangerously satisfying, DirtWolf Double IPA is the culmination of Victory’s double IPA series experiment with whole flower American-grown hops. With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% abv brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties. Replacing Victory’s Hop Wallop® Ale, which will take a hiatus from the market for the time being, DirtWolf Double IPA will launch the brewery’s entry into four-packs when it begins to hit markets in October". “So a wolf and a prospector walked into a bar…,” joked President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “No, in all seriousness, Hop Wallop will be missed, but isn’t necessarily gone forever. We developed that brand 10 years ago as our flavorful response to the hop-bomb vogue of the time. But as brewers who enjoy experimenting with beer styles and ingredient varieties, we looked for the opportunity to do other interesting recipes as time passed. Making the decision to put Hop Wallop aside for a few years allows us to bring this delicious new double IPA, DirtWolf, to the market in bottles.

Growler from Central Liquors, beautiful golden orange pour, medium carbonation leaves a light lacing on the glass. Forceful grapefruit and light pine aroma, bitter finish when cold, the malt shines through as its a bit warmer. Solid effort, a few I like better but glad to see Victory scoring a home run here.

Bottle pour. Lotta floaters pilsner yellow with a snow white head. Aroma of dankness. Just a bright refreshing juicy ipa that leaves a bitter almost pucker feeling in the mouth. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Bottledog, Kings X. It pours hazy golden with a medium white head. The nose is juicy mango, passion fruit, nectarine, orange, earth, pine and sherbet. The taste is crisp, bitter, grapefruit, orange peel, peppery edge, straw, passion fruit, mango and some creaminess with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Crisp, clean and super-drinkable. Very nice.

Pours clear straw limited head and some chunks of lacing. Nose is a bit quiet, some resin. Notes of grapefruit, pine cones, flowers and some biscuit. Tastes are medium/heavy bitter and light sweet. Reasonably full, somewhat sticky body with lively carbonation. Another winner from an always great brewery.

Poured out light golden with fresh fruit and grassy hops filling the nose. Taste is a bit of fruit with a balanced hop bite. Love this beer and would love to rate higher, but not as a DIPA

Bottle. Clear blonde pour with rocky white head. Some light crystal, honeydew, and grapefruit in the nose. Awesome flavor profile: full and rich of pine, strawberry, mango, grass, and perfume. Fills the mouth and keeps coming. Light bodied and crisp. Splendid!

On Tap at Whole Foods, Boise ID, of all places. I mean...I live here but to spot a Victory on tap is a real treat. Clear medium orange amber witha fine smooth light tan head. Nice pithy piney hop aroma. Dry sharp grassy hop flavors. A bit papery and woody. Not a ton of fresh hop flavor. Dry and a little "dusty" palatte.

12 oz. bottle pours a cloudy golden orange with small but lasting soapy white head with some lacing. Aroma is full of pine resin, grapefruit, pineapple, and mango. Taste is bitter but with some sweet caramel in the middle before the big bitter finish kicks in. Body is medium with average carbonation and a sticky mouthfeel. A solid DIPA which doesn’t quite knock me out.

[bottle from Bier Cellar] You can smell the hops in this beer from across a crowded room: pinapple, mango, passion fruit, cat pee. There is probably some light caramel in there too. Hazy resinous dark gold appearance under a lacy, white sheet. Flavour is potent cat pee first and then a mouthful of fresh pineapple which becomes apple juice. A malt sweetness holds up the malt flavour and balances a very bitter, but not biting hops bitterness. Grassy hops flavour is also present throughout. Medium body, moderate to medium carbonation, resinous but not astringent at all.

12oz bottle. Oh hell yeah. This is what I’m talking about. Hazy golden-tan-orange body. Foamy white head. Awesome delicate passionfruit, apricot, honeysuckle aroma. Massive tropical hop tones, but all kept cleanly in line with a steady golden malt backbone. Not sticky, overwhelming, brutal..nope this is approaching perfect for an IIPA in 2014. Absolutely nails it.
