Wildly assertive, intentionally untamed and dangerously satisfying, DirtWolf Double IPA is the culmination of Victory’s double IPA series experiment with whole flower American-grown hops. With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% abv brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties. Replacing Victory’s Hop Wallop® Ale, which will take a hiatus from the market for the time being, DirtWolf Double IPA will launch the brewery’s entry into four-packs when it begins to hit markets in October". “So a wolf and a prospector walked into a bar…,” joked President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “No, in all seriousness, Hop Wallop will be missed, but isn’t necessarily gone forever. We developed that brand 10 years ago as our flavorful response to the hop-bomb vogue of the time. But as brewers who enjoy experimenting with beer styles and ingredient varieties, we looked for the opportunity to do other interesting recipes as time passed. Making the decision to put Hop Wallop aside for a few years allows us to bring this delicious new double IPA, DirtWolf, to the market in bottles.

UPDATED: OCT 15, 2013 Grapefruit citrus aroma, flavor follows with some pine. Some malt but I feel it could have used more. Alcohol is very well hidden. Don’t retire Hop Wallop.

[bottle from Bier Cellar] You can smell the hops in this beer from across a crowded room: pinapple, mango, passion fruit, cat pee. There is probably some light caramel in there too. Hazy resinous dark gold appearance under a lacy, white sheet. Flavour is potent cat pee first and then a mouthful of fresh pineapple which becomes apple juice. A malt sweetness holds up the malt flavour and balances a very bitter, but not biting hops bitterness. Grassy hops flavour is also present throughout. Medium body, moderate to medium carbonation, resinous but not astringent at all.

12oz bottle. Oh hell yeah. This is what I’m talking about. Hazy golden-tan-orange body. Foamy white head. Awesome delicate passionfruit, apricot, honeysuckle aroma. Massive tropical hop tones, but all kept cleanly in line with a steady golden malt backbone. Not sticky, overwhelming, brutal..nope this is approaching perfect for an IIPA in 2014. Absolutely nails it.

Thanks Spence3208. Copper pour with an off-white head. Aroma is spicy hops. Taste is a nice hoppy flavor that spreads out over your palate but not over bearing. The flavor lingers. Nice malt base to supplement the hops. Nice lacing.

Pours a beautiful golden color. Nice carbonation produces a beautiful soapy white head. Aroma is piney with hints of grapefruit and citrus. Sweet aroma as well. Taste is nice. Pine up front, rolls with some orange and sweet malt and finishes bitter with pine. Very balanced. Body is medium full. Nice!

Pours a clear golden with minimal head, a small amount of floaties, and average lacing. Aroma is pine, dank resin and very light tropical fruit. Taste is pine with the expected bitterness and a dry finish. I thought I had already rated this because I picked up a four pack when it first came out. I remember being somewhat disappointed then (especially after reading all of the praise it was receiving) and this four pack hasn’t changed my opinion. The beer isn’t bad but there are so many DIPAs that I would choose over it. It reminded me a little of Stone Enjoy By 2.14.14.

Bottle at home. Pours clear orange with a medium, frothy white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is herbal, dank, earthy, and citrus hops with lightly sweet biscuit malt, pear and apricot fruity esters. Flavor is heavy citrus, juicy hops, supporting biscuit malt, light fruity esters and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Wow. Outstanding DIPA. On tap at the Tipsy Boar in Hollywood, FL. Very well balanced; to me neither the malt nor hops really dominate the flavor more than the other. Not incredibly bitter like a lot of other IPAs.
