COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wildly assertive, intentionally untamed and dangerously satisfying, DirtWolf Double IPA is the culmination of Victory’s double IPA series experiment with whole flower American-grown hops. With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% abv brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties. Replacing Victory’s Hop Wallop® Ale, which will take a hiatus from the market for the time being, DirtWolf Double IPA will launch the brewery’s entry into four-packs when it begins to hit markets in October". “So a wolf and a prospector walked into a bar…,” joked President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “No, in all seriousness, Hop Wallop will be missed, but isn’t necessarily gone forever. We developed that brand 10 years ago as our flavorful response to the hop-bomb vogue of the time. But as brewers who enjoy experimenting with beer styles and ingredient varieties, we looked for the opportunity to do other interesting recipes as time passed. Making the decision to put Hop Wallop aside for a few years allows us to bring this delicious new double IPA, DirtWolf, to the market in bottles.

Darkly heroic, Humulus Lupulus (hops) have empowered brews with bite and character since the 11th century. DirtWolf is a tribute to these untamed vines which rise from the earth with the voracity of a ’wolf among sheep.’ Hops have made an assertive comeback in American craft brewing. Revel in the best US varieties of hops, in their natural, whole flower form, as they bring a vital, pungent reality to the soul of a wild element in our dangerously satisfying DirtWolf. Cheers, Bill, Ron, The Brewmasters of Victory.

FROM NOTES: October 22, ’13. A: Tropical fruit, orange, mango, and hops. Really floral and fresh. A: Pours a slight cloudy golden orange color, with a nice one finger off white head at the top, leaves a pretty good amount of lacing around the glass. T: Initially an earthy hops bitterness followed by a mild caramel and citrus sweetness. The malt character is hearty but there isn’t much balance. The after-taste is slightly hoppy. P: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky. O: A decent 2IPA but there are several others in the style that I would pick first.

Bottle from Brewer’s Haven. Been waiting for this one to arrive and get it while it’s fresh... pungent hops as soon as the cap came off. Dark orange/amber color with a finger of creamy tan head, plenty of thick lacing. Nose is rich with pungent hops; floral, citrus and resin. Tastes the same, sticky with hops. Subtle malt profile and plenty of IBU’s. For as hop forward as this is, it was remarkably drinkable. Great beer.

Pours hazy amber with small off-white head. Clear aroma of hops and citrus, with some fruity touches. Intense, bitter flavour of hops, fruity notes of peach and mango and hints of citrus. Bitter finish.

12 oz. snifter serving at Saucer- served a murky orange/straw color. Aroma of grapefruit and resin. Hits the mouth with a wide body, feels very HOT on the tongue from the hops (been awhile since I had that experience, thanks!), malt tastes even and not overdosed on caramel, solid hop cresent in the middle, finish is highly acidic. Nice.

Maljassa 8/2015. Malty, still balanced imperial IPA with a bit piny hoppiness.

On tap @ STOUT NYC. giallo ambrato carico, quasi ramato, con riflessi dorati. schiuam bianco sporco, fine poco persistente. aroma molto intenso, fruttato, agrumato (scorza di limone) floreale (ibisco) maltato, caramello, lievemente tostato e resinoso. Gusto abboccato all’ingresso, alcolico, e maltato. discretamente acidula, diventa parecchio amara nel finale. Calda, carbonata, piuttosto corposa, rotonda, con note terrose e di melassa. equilibrata ed armonica.

This is a harsher IPA than the Moving Parts 04. Resin and orange pith hops, although balances nicely with the malt.

On tap at Cafe Fiasco. Clear golden, small head. Spicy aroma, orange zest, caramel. A very kind DIPA that hides its strength well.

Nice light golden a bit hazy color with medium head. Aroma full of citrus, mango and carmelized orange zest. Maybe something notes flom malt. Taste: carmelized orange, caramel, Orange zest with herbal and resin bitterness. A bit oily semi-sweet /semi-dry, medium carbonated. Nice and tasty but for me to sweet, English style DIPA for sure. Bitterness last for a while but it is not agressive.
