COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wildly assertive, intentionally untamed and dangerously satisfying, DirtWolf Double IPA is the culmination of Victory’s double IPA series experiment with whole flower American-grown hops. With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% abv brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties. Replacing Victory’s Hop Wallop® Ale, which will take a hiatus from the market for the time being, DirtWolf Double IPA will launch the brewery’s entry into four-packs when it begins to hit markets in October". “So a wolf and a prospector walked into a bar…,” joked President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “No, in all seriousness, Hop Wallop will be missed, but isn’t necessarily gone forever. We developed that brand 10 years ago as our flavorful response to the hop-bomb vogue of the time. But as brewers who enjoy experimenting with beer styles and ingredient varieties, we looked for the opportunity to do other interesting recipes as time passed. Making the decision to put Hop Wallop aside for a few years allows us to bring this delicious new double IPA, DirtWolf, to the market in bottles.

Darkly heroic, Humulus Lupulus (hops) have empowered brews with bite and character since the 11th century. DirtWolf is a tribute to these untamed vines which rise from the earth with the voracity of a ’wolf among sheep.’ Hops have made an assertive comeback in American craft brewing. Revel in the best US varieties of hops, in their natural, whole flower form, as they bring a vital, pungent reality to the soul of a wild element in our dangerously satisfying DirtWolf. Cheers, Bill, Ron, The Brewmasters of Victory.

Thin-headed golden pour. Bready aroma with some citrus - very pleasant. Flavors of malt, pine in the middle, and mellow lingering citrus finish. Well balanced, and incredibly smooth on the palate for a dipa at this abv.

Citrus, pine, and some grass in the aroma. Golden honey color with spotty lacing from the beautiful frothy head that has really great retention. Flavor of pine, citrus (mostly grapefruit), and a kind of lemongrass that is delightful. Great hoppy brew with carbonation and an awesome low level bitterness that is very enjoyable. Dirtwolf is truly one of a kind and I thoroughly enjoyed this double IPA!

UPDATED: APR 23, 2015 Lots of tropical fruit on the nose - pineapple, mango, even guava, along with citrus, mostly grapefruit, and a bready malt note. I don’t often give beers over an average appearance score, as long as what I see fits in with what is normal for the style, but this one got extra points for the cool patterns the thin residual head bubbles continued to swirl atop the brew as I sipped at it. And nice lacing. Taste is all those big elements in the nose, but with a strong woodsy and dank overtone that give the beer a dark side, to balance all that Luke Skywalker light and bright fruitiness. Big and complex enough to sip slowly, but tasty enough to enjoy a whole glass. Pretty yummy DIPA. I must note that as I got through the 4-pack over the following days, each bottle I drank struck me more and more strongly of dank and dord. Yes, dord. Bargain bottle from that pub in Tickenham, drank in bed watching Coraline, 08/02/15. Pours veiled orange generously frilled with lace. Good to see a healthy swirl of detritus swirling around in the bottom of the bottle too- bonus point. Aroma of sugared and honeyed fresh halved grapefruit, peach jelly, wine gums, mandarin cheesecake and Coitreau. Even some lean grassy aspects beneath the schnapps-sodden sponge fingers. Warm, generously pungent and rounded with a resinous juicy mandarin and grapefruit bitterness not overly cloyed by honey-spread rich tea and sugared marmalade. Chewy, fresh and contemplative. Quietly humming. Above average US DIPA with a depth of hop and malt character that dwarfs it’s alcoholic glow.

Pours an almost clear copper with small white head. Medium intensity on the nose, some toffee, hints of resin, slightly roasted maltiness and a touch of mango. Medium bodied, round palate with good bitterness. Nice East Coast-style IPA here. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
