Wildly assertive, intentionally untamed and dangerously satisfying, DirtWolf Double IPA is the culmination of Victory’s double IPA series experiment with whole flower American-grown hops. With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% abv brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties. Replacing Victory’s Hop Wallop® Ale, which will take a hiatus from the market for the time being, DirtWolf Double IPA will launch the brewery’s entry into four-packs when it begins to hit markets in October". “So a wolf and a prospector walked into a bar…,” joked President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “No, in all seriousness, Hop Wallop will be missed, but isn’t necessarily gone forever. We developed that brand 10 years ago as our flavorful response to the hop-bomb vogue of the time. But as brewers who enjoy experimenting with beer styles and ingredient varieties, we looked for the opportunity to do other interesting recipes as time passed. Making the decision to put Hop Wallop aside for a few years allows us to bring this delicious new double IPA, DirtWolf, to the market in bottles.

Darkly heroic, Humulus Lupulus (hops) have empowered brews with bite and character since the 11th century. DirtWolf is a tribute to these untamed vines which rise from the earth with the voracity of a ’wolf among sheep.’ Hops have made an assertive comeback in American craft brewing. Revel in the best US varieties of hops, in their natural, whole flower form, as they bring a vital, pungent reality to the soul of a wild element in our dangerously satisfying DirtWolf. Cheers, Bill, Ron, The Brewmasters of Victory.

Poured light gold with a big, foamy head. Floral aroma with a hint of citrus. Taste is citrus rind, tropical fruit. Dry finish. Really enjoyed this one.

Draft. Pours medium clear yellow with a thin white head that lingers. Intoxicating grapefruit hop aroma over mild carbonation. A bit boozy. Reasonable complexity. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 ounce bottle pours a light yellow color with a white head that lasts quite a long Time nice lacing. Mostly clear with a slight bit of haze. Pine and floral notes of aroma in this IPA. Medium carbonation very very nice hops to malt balance incredibly smooth for an Imperial IPA.

Bottle from Beermerchants. Pours weak hazy golden with a huge creamy white head. Aroma of flowery, citrus and piney hops together with a light sweet malty base.Taste is moderate sweet, clean smooth mouthfeel, dry bitter mixture of fruity, citrus and orange, flowery and resiny hops, with a big minty bite at the lingering finish. Very good.

Wow. Bottle from giant eagle. Nose is hop but without the acrid bite. Good color and weight. Smooth bodied and mild floral undertones don't overpower the hop burst. Hops are upfront but not too bitter - they are part of the mixture and not the whole damn thing. Usual citrus bit in there too. Very tasty and better than their old 2x ipa offering. ---Rated via my mouth

Pour is a cloudy yellow with a large white head. Aroma is all things hop. Really a super nice pungent bitter hop. Flavor is again a solid bitter hop. Lots of fruity melon and citrus acid lay on the tongue. Finish has a bit of sweetness but it’s quickly overpowered by a strong hop bitterness. Very clean tasting and pushes those alpha acids to the limit. Put this in your top 5 to seek out.

Bottled. Poured brighter golden with a short-lived white head. The aroma picked up bright citrus zest and lesser medicinal notes, with sweet caramel and a kiss of honey supporting. The flavor found bitter grapefruit and peppery hops throughout, with sweet malt supporting.. spicy and a bit hot on the finish. Medium-plus bodied with moderate carbonation.. it was kind of hot, but it grew on me.

Bottle pour - orange-gold body with a medium whitish head that recedes a bit more quickly than others in style as of recent. Aroma is quite enticing - can definitely note the Citra working here, and there is a good sweet malt backbone evident - slightly grainy, there is also a bit if piney hops to balance it out - great nose. Flavor is quite good as well - assertive hops get occasionally checked by the malts, but the hops are the show here - the piney hops show a bit more on the tongue, but there is some puckering fruit in here as well. Mouthfeel is good - overall a nice rendition of a wonderful style.
