jhumphries69 (656), Tyrone, Georgia, USA Sep 5, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a brilliant, rusty-looking copper with a medium-sized, short-lived, tan head. The aroma is biscuity and malty with some notes of toasted bread and subtle hints of fruit (dates). The flavor starts crisp and bready with notes of spicy hops and some residual malt sweetness. The maltiness and breadiness remain consistent throughout - from beginning to end. The sweetness is not too strong and is well-round. It is also well-balanced by a light and very clean bitterness at mid-tongue. The finish is malty and somewhat dry with subtle notes of hop bitterness and lots of dry, bready, toasty flavors. The mouthfeel is medium in body - and feels surprisingly full considering that the carbonation is also decently high. The beer isn’t spritzy but has enough gas to give a zip on the tip of the tongue and a tingle all over as the beer washes down. Overall, the beer is a decent, full-flavored, all-malt lager; but it is far from the best Oktoberfest beer I’ve had. Drinkable for sure, but not particularly special.
fidelis83 (558), Clinton, Iowa, USA Jun 29, 2009 Pours dark amber with a 1 finger eggshell head that fades somewhat quickly to a thin skim and ring. Aroma is sweet malt, toasted grain, a little caramel, some earth and dark fruit. Flavor is lots of fresh grain, some caramel, sweet malt, underbaked cookies and some planty notes. Palate is light bodied a little slick and somewhat overcarbonated for the style. This is a decent marzen. I really like the very fresh wholesum grain taste that it starts out with but it lacks follow through. beerfest5 (83), Simsbury, Connecticut, USA Jun 19, 2009 not a bad oktoberfest, a little to molasses taste for me to be so called "smooth". probably wont do it again, but best i could find at local beer store. yobdoog (1021), Woodridge NY, New York, USA Jun 18, 2009 Bottle. Dark pour with a fluffy head. Earthy and musty aroma with some yeast and wheat. Some mellow spice. A bit odd, not for me. mabel (2208), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 11, 2009 [2097-20090419] 12floz bottle. Vegetable grains aroma. Slightly hazy, golden amber body with quick creamy off-white bubbles. Grainy vegetable flavour has toasted malt. Medium body. Average.
(w/ jerc, others) soccer290 (125), Highland Park, Illinois, USA Jun 4, 2009 12 oz bottle. Wow, a somewhat rare beer that isn’t badly rated, found on the 99 cent shelf of my liquor store. Sweet deal. Pours a brownish red, with hints of orange, along with a tiny white head that disippates quickly. Smells of hops, caramel, and some strange fruit (the caramel makes me think of apple though). Tastes of lots of caramel malt (almost has bite to it, with how much there is), and thats about it. Light-medium bodied, with that strange bite. Interesting beer, worth the 99 cents, but absolutely not special. Almost reminded me of a barley wine. elihapa (821), Honolulu, California, USA May 21, 2009 Bottle for $1.99 in CT. Pours clear amber-pink with a small head. Aroma has caramel and some earthiness, but nothing very complex. Flavor is similar: a light, refreshing maltier brew with a touch of buttery fruit and nuts. OK, but boring by Victory’s standards. kimcgolf (765), Dacula, Georgia, USA May 15, 2009 Pours from the bottle to a hazy burnt orange with very little head or lacing, and a nose that is malty cookie dough and candy, with a faint side of ly hops, apples and citrus fruit. Mourthfeel is fairly flat and non-descript, and I actually picked up the hoopy apples more than the malt side in the taste. No alcohol ever makes itself know, and the finish is so-so.
