Enchanting and enlightening, this golden, frothy ale boasts an intriguing herbal aroma, warming alcohol esters on the tongue and light, but firm body to finish. Exotic spices add subtle notes to both the aroma and flavor. Strong, sensual and satisfying.

The label claims this is brewed in the tripel style, but it doesnít hold a candle to the V10. Itís decent, but lacks the depth of flavor of the V10. Very good for a year round type bottled beer, but if Iím in the mood for belgian styles, Iíd rather spend the same money on a single bottle of something really amazing.

UPDATED: OCT 9, 2003 re-rate: Cloudy, straw yellow color w/ a medium sized white head. aroma has honey and malt, sweet, with alcohol notable but nicely blended (not overwhelming). Flavor is smooth and well balanced (especially for a high grav beer), malty, with belgian sugar and honey notable, slightly spicey, with a warming alcohol undertone throughout. If I had to complain, I'd say it's a little too sweet. But overall a great brew.

This was a great beer. A little on the sweet side but still worth seeking out.

Whatís all the hype about? Now, I admit itís quite nice for an american belgian-style. But thereís a disappointing, vegetable-y off note, and it doesnít have quite the light finish Iíd want from a belgian.

Light orange. Non-lasting head. Subtle spiciness. Alcohol is well masked. Sweet finish. Good but not great.

UPDATED: DEC 26, 2003 Victory Golden Monkey carried a pungent aroma. The flavors were primarily sour fruit. Alcohol felt more than tasted. -- Update: I bought this beer thinking that I hadn't had before but discovered that I had already rated it. I concur with my earlier rating. To it I can only add the colour was a dull-yellow. This go around I dedected subtle hints of clove. It didn't improve the taste but made it a bit more interesting. Not worth the price or the hype.

Translucent golden color, head disappeared quickly. Finishes sweet with alcohol. My sample was on the sour side. I did not find this very interesting, maybe bad.

12 oz bottle. Hazy orange, with little semblance of a head. Wow, very bright and intense nose, like sugar-coated flower petals. Honey, sour green apple, and not a whiff of EtOH. This must be what ambrosia smells like. Cotton candy malt, quite sweet, but intersected by black pepper, corriander, other spice, and a subtle hoppiness. The finish is lightly bitter, semisweet, and rather dry with a touch of alcohol. Perilous drinkability, considering the kick it has. In a head-to-head with New Belgium Trippel, this one wins hands down. Iím left grinning from ear to ear. Astounding!
