Nice tight white head on this cloudy golden yellow beer. Spicey nose. Candy sugar sweetness with fruit notes balanced with a not so subtle clove/cinammon spice flavor. Nice bitterness in the finish. A very good Belgian knock-off.

Had this on tap at the Ginger Man in NYC. Was an OK beer, except that it just did not taste like a "Strong Belgian" to me. Was far too "American" to be considered in that class.

Pineapple, mango, fruity nose. Generous white, frothy head. Golden, honey amber hue. Apples, bananas, yeast, firm footed on palate, very genorous malt. Very impressive brew, got right on top of me and made me drink a couple. Awesome, coriander and spice, a lovely brew no doubt.

Smells a bit of rotting cheese, not that that is a bad thing, yeah, rotting cheese and alcohol. As beautiful golden colors grace the eye, the plethora of complex white floating bits combine with the effervescent floating bubbles to form a witches brew of fermentable wonder. Lemony malt goodness meld with the hoppy goodness to form an elixir like no other. A slight bit of peppery spiceyness contributes nicely to the smooth liquid gold. This is one of a kind. Find it, drink it, enjoy. Blessed be the monkey. [2002 vintage]

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2004 Pours a cloudy yellow, with a thin white head that doesn't last very long, not much lacing either. Flowery yeasty aroma, sweet and malty, thick and creamy full mouthfeel, warming alcohol taste and an awesome, spicy clove flavor,a big and beautiful trippel, I need more.

It brings to mind Duvel, I think, but a little sweeter. I like the subtle fruit flavors (banana, plum?), but seems to be just missing something.

There is something magical about the Golden Monkey. Perhap’s it reminds me of an ill-fated television show that I so admired in my youth. Perhaps it’s the Monkey’s deceptively high caliber whallop. Whatever, I am entranced with this brew. Delicate gold in color with a bright white head plumage. Soft aroma with hints of candy and sourness. Mild cinammon dances throughout the first sip ... ooh ... and that promised candy. Absolutely no alcohol flavor which amazed me considering its advertised alcohol level. I could drink a dozen of these based on flavor alone. A remarkable and delicious beer.

Not as aromatic as it should be. That was a detrament to the overall rating. Light golden in color, more like a blonde ale then a strong ale. Good flavor and palate with spices and fruit noticed.

Clear golden color, not much head. Banana, spices, orange and honey aroma. It tastes like spicy banana mixed with citrus fruits. This beer has a lot going on but I can’t quite put my finger on it all.

Light golden color. Fruity taste, oranges, with some spices thrown in for added interest. A very enjoyable brew.
