jredmond (598), New Jersey, USA Nov 30, 2006 Updated: Jul 26, 2007 "Watch out for that Golden Monkey...he’ll sneak up on you." This is what the guy at the beer barn said to my friend and I the first time we bought a variety case of Victory Beer. From that moment on we knew we would love this so-called "Golden Monkey"...and he did sneak up on us the second time when we bought a case. A bit expensive (45$) but considering the alcohol content (9.5%) it takes less beers to get us to where we want to be. Whenever I introduce this beer to a friend they are always pessimistic at first. However, everyone eventually grows fond of the Golden Monkey. You can smell and taste the banana bread - fantastic.
elihapa (244), Connecticut, USA Aug 29, 2008 Aroma of wheat, spices and hops. A little spice as well. Palate is smooth and lightly carbonated, and finishes long and a touch syrupy. Flavor is initially of wheat and flowers, slightly sweet. Mid palate is full of hops, caramel malt, and fruit. Finishing flavors are a delicious blend of spices and sweet fruit, reminding me of orange marmalade. Some sips also contained a touch of alcohol to boot. Overall, very enjoyable, I am really quite surprised. Good job victory! Steinface (68), Hatfield, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 27, 2008 I think FatTony that you must have had a bad bottle. There’s no way I can see anyone on this site giving this beer a 1. Very hoppy, I detected fruit, perhaps strawberry. Bitter aftertase, which I like. Haven’t had many abbey tripels, but this was extremely nice. Caleb1035 (14), , North Carolina, USA Aug 23, 2008 This beers popularity is a mystery to me. It has a very complex taste that is hard to pin down, but the lingering aftertaste isnt pleasant. The are definitely better abbey tripels out there. FatTony (110), Augusta, Georgia, USA Aug 22, 2008 12 ounce bottle- this beer is a mystery. I can’t figure out just how they got that monkey to piss in the bottle. The rancid smell was followed up by a rancid taste, at least it was consistent. Godawful. Can’t reconcile my score with what I see here, maybe a bad bottle? nqualls (185), Tennessee, USA Aug 15, 2008 Bought a six pack of 12 ozers from Frugal MacDoogal’s in Fort Mill, SC. Poured a clear gold with a 2.5 finger white head. Aroma was very spicy. Flavor was spicy with some apples and other fruit. Alcohol was moderately warming. Medium body with moderate to high carbonation. Very complex beer.
